We have DRL in Canada for over 15 years now and they do makea difference. You try and spot a black car on a black tarmac with heat haze coming off the road, unless you take a long look you could miss it. Also with the lights on, you can better judge the speed the car is travelling if you need to pull out of a junction.

here here.

I agree on this one, I have always ( well always ) have my main lights on out of choice, this means there should no excuse of someone not seeing you whether they are a car driver/biker or pedestrian and since my HID lights fitted three yrs ago it is hard to not see me :D

You get the odd person flashing you cos you have lights on, but i would much rather have that than someone saying they didn't see me....... like when I am on my bike, always have lights on so I can be seen very clearly....its not hard really and common sense :)

The law states that cars homoligated or 'type approved' for sale in the UK from April 2011 must have DRL's fitted, however the illumination of said DRL's is NOT compulsory yet. Crazy!!

The new Focus does have them as standard but not all have them enabled, kind of defeats the object. The MK2.5 Focus and new Fiesta will have been type approved way before April 2011.

I've seen plenty of new (60 and 61 plate) Leons without their DRLs on so I guess they're being switched off either by the owners or the dealers...

My June 2011 FR came with the DRL's switched off not sure if set like that at the factory or by the dealer

If I was in a cynical mood (which is quite often), I might think that the dealers are turning them off in case the "yellow candle" look generates grumbles from new and potential buyers. White LEDs look so much nicer IMHO... but of course that's not an easy option/upgrade for dealers to recommend due to the picky canbus system.

Exactly or you can just add white looking W5W bulbs. Not as if LED's are expensive these day's easy to program the Canbus to accept them should be standard fitment IMO.

I have fitted W5W white LED sidelights to my scooter cost me 99p for two inc P&P cheaper than proper bulbs
