Hi there I've taken a punt and ordered the following cable but I can't post links so just add the www to the beginning:-
.dhgate.com/sample-famous-brand-super-2010-hex-usb-can/p-ff8080812bf28ba2012c0d82a8357757.html
Works out to be £18.85 Inc p&p
I'll let you know how it's works on my 59 fl fr

Just to let people know who are interested in a cable for a mk2 the above works just fine for both fault code scanning and amending the options such as activating and deactivating selective locking. Not tried anything else yet but plan to activate needle sweep later on too.

guys i went through this thread, and mainly noticed that most people on here are with mk2 leon's... and so many versions of the cables are mentioned that i am lost in what i need... ive got an mk1 1.6 leon sx (2004), what i need is mainly to read faults and clear them, as my engine managment light has come on, and instead of taking the car to the garage i want to find out the problem myself, and maybe fix it myself, and then obviously delete the fault... can you link me in the right direction to obtain a cable that will do the job? i'll consider all kinds, thanks a bunch, Alex

On an 04 model I would assume that any of the cables listed in this thread would work.

Most of the updates to the VCDS software just add better labels and newer module information as new ones enter usage. So you should be safe on an 2004 model.

I'm sure I will be swiftly corrected if I'm wrong!

Hi both,

I'm quite sure these cables in this thread will not be suitable for a mk1 as these are can-bus cables and I think a kkl cable is required for the mk1.

Cheers Adrian!
My Cable and software arrived yesterday, purchased from the link you quote above.
Cable looks decent - as original as they come. :)

Software - dodgy disc? Cant install, it complains about a few files it cant access/run, gone back to the Seller for a new software disc, or possible download.

Like most, only want to dabble every now and then, set the odd setting, check for error codes etc.

Mine arrived earlier this week as well, though I have not connected it to the car yet. Regarding the software install, have you read the text file on the CD? You don't actually install it, simply copy the vcds directory onto a hard drive and run the exe from inside that folder.

Thankyou,
To be more specific, I was just trying to copy the contents of the CD first...

Reason being, I was going to use a spare NetBook for this VAG COM, being small and lightweight, perfect for carrying round in the car. :) But the netbook doesnt have a CD Drive (as most dont) just SD Slot.

So im trying to copy the contents to a SD Card first, then use that.
Will follow your advice and try just the VCDS Dir. :)
(but it was some of the ROD files it complained about - including Readme.txt).

is there a way to change the convinence indicators so it stays on for longer?

Good news I've today seen the setting for this. They can be changed from 1 - 5 flashes by doing the following:
Central elect
Channel 31
Then amend the value from the standard 3 to anything between 1-5
Then do it

Hope this helps

dpf level

Just got around to checking my dpf level (as my engine warning light came on!) and it says 20.0%, checked it again after a short run and still sitting at 20.0%.

ANy ideas? faulty sensor maybe? Gonna try and book it in at the weekend but would be good to have an idea... it still runs fine.

I don't see a problem with that, if it was a short run it could very well stay the same. If it went up to 32% on a short run you may be more worried.

Keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and just be sure in your own head that it gradually creeps up to 45%, then does a regen down to single figures and so on.

Does anyone know how to active the fog lights as DRL lights on my fl 59 reg leon fr? I am sure I've read this is possible but cant find the specifics. I was also hoping to be able to adjust them so they are not quite so bright, to something like 75% brightness.
Actually I can't decide whether front fogs or side lights may look better as drls?

Anyone done this and know where to find the settings in VCDS?

Ive done this on my FL Cupra. If you factory DRLs you have to turn these off, Module 9, Byte 15, Actvate fogs as DRLS, Byte 14 Bit 1 enable and brighness is Byte 24 (default 92%). One thing to note if you dont have DRLs when enabled you have front and rear side lights on has well, to turn these off carries a risk. Its contained in byte 18 but the default value is usally hidden by 2 zeros and if you put the wrong value in the lights go all weird and you might have them all on all the time or reverse lights with side lights etc. I worked out mine was 18 default and was changed to 16 but this took a lot of googling and I did get it wrong first time, plus the code might be differant for you car.

I don't have facotry fitted DRL's to my vehicle, thanks for this info I'll take a look in the next few days. Is there any way of using the side lights as DRL's without the rears being swtiched on also and not getting too far into the technical side of vcds which could cause me problems with my lights?

No matter what you enable as DRLs, (you can have side, head or fog lights) you will still have rear side lights unless you change byte 18.

Been using 812.4 for awhile now on my preface leon.

I just want to ask, If I want to use the latest VCD that is on 10.6 something... Then i would need to buy another cable again right?

Im running on windows 7 64bit not had any issues with 812.4 but Im guessing this is fine once I get the new cable aswell?

Hi,

I got a Ver 805.1 cable - so I'm getting one of these, to see if it can re-code my RNS 510 C!

Fingers crossed!

How long did you have to wait for delivery..... days or weeks, as I take it's being shipped from HK?

Hey Guys, finally got my cable (as per post #36) working with my FR TDi, on my mates old XP desktop PC (was a funny site wit the whole PC next to the car, in the pissing rain under a tarp!).

It lets me check fault codes, and clear then individually, on my Leon and my mates mkIV golf, but when I tried to change the alarm chip & one click unlock, it said I need an official licensed copy to make changes. Using 7.04 VCDS.

Any ideas on this (apart from get an officially licensed copy!)

I couldnt ever get it to run on my W7 64bit Laptop, has anyone done this so far?

Cheers, Kev.
