Why doesn't the leon have LED running lights?

I have both LED's and Xenons with cornering function on the new car (2011 C-Class C250 CDI Sport) and have found I do not go racing up behind anyone (I might get stone chips on the front doing that :blink:).

I think it's a bit lame to say all people with LED's go rushing up behind people as it's simply not true. Yes there will be the odd retard who drives constantly at maximum speed but most will be driving carefully not wanting to damage their pride and joy.

You probably just notice the people with LED's more as there are not that many vehicles about with them. That being the case the LEDs are doing the job intended and making the car more noticable. Another reason not to speed as you will be noticed doing it :D.

The operation of my lights seems to be LED's on the minute you turn the ignition on and the sidelights mounted in the main lights come on also. The Xenons then switch on automatically depending on light available (I have them set on Auto, just like I used to in the K1). The LED's appear to stay on once the Xenons are on.

For anyone thinking about them angel eyes.......Nooooooooooooo your Leon is not a saxo!!!!! :lol:

You are right - their car (usually an AUDI) IS more noticable, but not because they have DRL's, but because they do feel the need to drive close behind me - so impossible to NOT to notice the DRL's! ;) (but agree, it is down to the mindset of the driver).

Doesn't this defeat the object? Making their car safer to see during the day (with DRL's), but then they again increase the odds of an accident by driving within close proximity to the car infront, so less time to react should that car suddenly brake!

I'm dreading the day EVERY car that passes me on UK roads sports DRL's (due to new government regulation).
Boy racers across the country will be locking themselves in their garages, along with their new cars..... :w4nk: they will be in heaven! lol.

I might be reading this wrong but according to my manual i have daytime running lights on my new Leon FR CR facelift.

I had the tech pack with Bi-xenon headlights with AFS and daytime running lights !

Thou it looks like one bulb in yellow with mirror effect reflector around it directly above the sidelight.

I'm confused now but it doesn't take much at the moment to confuse me.

Have read your post and i'm changing the bulbs. Thou i've not gone for LED ones at this time.

You'd think its the simplest thing to get all the lights a similar colour when they leave the factory and gives a better more fluid look for only a few £'s
It always surprises me when people scrimp on things like this.

It's all part of brand positioning I'm sure - VAG don't want the SEATs and Skodas of this world to be/look more luxurious than their premium brands. So Audis get LEDs and SEATs don't. It surprises me that they didn't give the Golf some LEDs though... looks pants and I understand the Golf is harder to upgrade as their DRL is combined with full beam or summat. Ah well!
The MTEC 382s are a pretty good match for the factory bi-xenons btw. ;)

:lol: Just trying to be helpful. I did take a chunk out of my hand changing the fogs though - blood, sweat and toil went into that post! ;)

:) Don't most "10 minute" jobs that involve opening the bonnet, usually end up taking 10X as long - They also tend to strangely spiral out of control, broken clips, snapped plastic, parts that just dont seem to fit back the way they came out... plus having a toilet roll handy, to help keep blood flow to a minimum, as fingers get mangled! :D

It is a very informative Post you reference (ie: your experiences with the different aftermarket Bulbs - plus plenty of great Pics) - infact I followed your thread and went out and attempted to upgrade my Bulbs too...

As you might have read of my experiences in the past, I was very pleased with my new "ice white" sidelights, but when as it turned to dusk/dark, they just looked too 'Blue' so I went back to OE.

The main dipped beam, also I went with Night Breakers. However to my disappointment, they looked a similar 'yellow' to the original bulbs already fitted!? :confused: I did leave them in though, incase they might be just a fraction brighter! :)
 
I replaced my stock main beam (H1) bulbs in my FR with Osram Nightbreakers and noticed quite a good improvement in brightness and reach of the light, although I agree it's only slightly whiter in colour than a normal bulb's output.

I noticed that ultraleds have started selling 'warm white' LED sidelights. But I couldn't see one which was both can-bus-friendly and warm white... so you might need an additional resistor kit with those.
I quite like my Philips 4000K LEDs but they don't light up the reflector well - they basically point forwards. They're also very pricey for what they are, and need the separate resistors to work properly.

The design of those has 2 lights around the 'cylinder' (facing sideways), plus 2 LEDs at the front (facing forward) - you'd hope this might emit a better spread of light around the sidelight housing when fitted?

As to the colour, they provide no examples. These do have the electrical components soldered closer to the base of the PCB, much like the other canbus compatible ones. So should be good?

I'm tempted to order, but might just wait til you get yours through, and can provide feedback.

If there was a WHITE coloured sidelight, that DOESN'T look Blue at night, Im sold! :rolleyes:

So all of you people who think that DRL's are tacky, you wouldn't buy a mk3 Leon if it had them as standard?? even if it was the best looking and most powerful car that Seat have produced?? I think you and I know that you would and then they would be the coolest thing ever invented.

These have been introduced for a reason and they will probably be fitted to all production cars in the end.

They do aid visibility to other drivers/road users just like a motorcyclist driving with the headlight on or is that tacky aswell??
