wow, this thread takes me back to the good old days. :D

But as mentioned by other SCN members- Perfectly safe.

I've been driving around for the last 2 years without any adjuster cups in and the car has passed 2 MOT's and i've never had a problem.

A 30 minute job with great results....DO IT!

I disagree entirely about safety. Yes, when driving normally, nothing untoward is likely to happen, but I had an incident in my car when I had the adjuster cups out.

I needed 2 new tyres, and when the garage jacked the car up, the springs became unseated at the top point, so when the car was lowered to the ground again, they weren't in place properly. The whole of my car was resting on the exhaust basically.

I never had any concerns before because my car had never left the ground so I didn't even think to check it before driving. The noises coming from the rear end of my car were enough to almost cause a brown pants moment! Took it straight back to get it sorted.

I've since put the adjuster cups back in, and raised them about and inch and set the fronts to match. Handling has improved massively, and my rear passengers just about get away without a need for a dentist afterwards.

I have no back seats so no rear passengers so it's fine :p haha also mine have never become unseated at the top on either car. What colies have you got? The weitecs are fine to have the cups out as they have the bolt in platform machined at the bottom so the spring fits on secure.

My old corsa when I was 18 the springs sat badly with the platforms and adjusters out and could become unseated like you said but luckily they never did haha

I've got FK's, which reportedly go lower than any other coilies, so consequnetly the springs are shorter too. It was fine if you just lifted one side of the car up at once, but when the garage changed the tyres, they lifted both sides of the car up, so the rear axle was allowed to drop as low as possible, which is fine for standard length springs, but with short coily springs, they were never gonna stay in place at the top!

As for handling, with fronts all the way down, and adjuster cups out at the rear, it felt like the car was going to skip off the road when it went over bumps mid corner! Much improved handling now I've raised it :D Hopefully much improved again tomorrow as my Whiteline Rear ARB should be turning up :D

Sounds like fk's all over that though, they are allot stiffer and less comfortable than the weitecs. My mate had them on his and I couldn't stand it, no wonder it skipped about and shatters spines haha

The weitecs and kw's don't go all that low at the back, just low enough. I do remember the pics of yours now with them all the way down, did look mint haha

It depends what result you're after I guess. If you want performance, keep the adjustor cups in and drive at a reasonable height.

If you want to achieve aesthetic results by dropping it as low as possible, take the adjustor cups out but be prepared for a reduced ride quality etc. (aesthetic results obviously vary between different people so ride heights are typically set to what the driver believes looks good). ......just a brief disclaimer before I get lynched by SCN folk.

Lol, I wanted both but I'll have to be satisfied with function over form :p To be honest, I'm still not overly happy with the ride quality. If I keep the car another few years, which I will in all probability, I may consider getting a set of KW's, Eibach's or Bilsteins. They won't go anywhere near as low as my current FK's, but I don't run them all the way down any more as it is. I could still get a reasonable price for the FK's if I sold them I reckon.

KW's, Eibach or Blistein are the big boys coilovers. Some good engineering have gone into making those coilovers :D

I think you're right, the FK's should sell quickly if advertised in the right place. People know how low they go. I noticed FK have brought an entry level coilover kit into the market I wonder what they're like !!?? :confused:

Weitecs are just none stainles kw v1's, your receipt/ warranty form comes on kw headed paper etc and they go plenty low enough if your keeping 17 inch wheels on.

Tbh it's only your car and that other one on air I've seen pull 16's off properly from an aesthetic point of view. I've always taken the easy way out by going for 17's, get the best of both worlds then!

I was on 17's before and I'll admit, life was so much easier. :hide: The whole ride height to wheel ratio works so much better. 16's can look silly with poor ride height. I even look at my car from the front sometimes and think so.

Oh also, just let you know. Bags going on soon. Luke wanted the car after UD but i'm busy so taking it in 2nd April.

Aye, I have the Silverline X versions, stainless and adjustable damping so should fetch a decent price considering what I paid for them!

I get the impression that FK are just designed to be the lowest, whereas KW, Eibach etc are designed to improve the ride and handling.

As for the Weitecs, I've already got stainless and adjustable damping coilies, so I wouldn't really want to go back to non-stainless really.

Id rather just copper grease the threads up and save myself 200 quid but up to you haha :p Bilsteins are the daddy or kw v2's/3's but it's a road car, not a race car so thought I'd save the money.

Can't wait to see yours on air, will look awesome, plus you have the best make wheels of course :p

KW V2's are over £1k lol, absolutely no chance! I can probably do without adjustable damping really, seen as I never adjust mine anyhow. The V1's and Eibach Pro Street-S's are similar in price, both stainless, and fixed damping so it'd be a hard choice. Would be interesting to find out spring rates for them both as I know the rates of the FK's. If they were very similar, I probably wouldnt change at all! :lol:

I can vouch they are allot comfier than the fk's haha pretty much comfier than standard. I had some ta technics on my old corsa that felt like fk's, got abit tedious doing the miles I do

Yeah, the FK's are getting a bit tiresome. I don't do all that many miles, but I'm sure my spine will appreciate a better ride!
