On the rollers again, not so good :(

Was at a RR day again today, pretty disappointed with the results. Showing about 28bhp down from what it should be as standard, probably more so given the Jetex and TIP. Fuelling still looking lean as well, the operator there said even if that's all the ECU is requesting then that'll be because there's something else wrong.

To be honest I'm a bit sick of this now and in two minds again whether to spend (waste?) time trying to sort it or just get shot of the car and get something else.

Graphs here anyway:

Cheers :) Yep as wayne says the earlier ones were called Flash Red, the later ones are called Emocion Red, which is slightly darker, richer shade than Flash. Never met anyone with a Flash Red car but would be interesting to put them side by side and get a shot with a good camera to really see the difference.

While I'm here, no real progress lately but have been enjoying being able to drive the car properly again (well as properly as I can, I'm far from a great driver) now that the weather's a bit better and the car is running well. This month will be sore, got road tax, MOT and insurance all due :( On the upside I'm going to get my R32 front ARB fitted while its' in the garage anyway so once that's on and I'll hopefully have some free funds after that, I'll be getting a rear one to go with it. Then to pick a remap...

You can meet mine in summer, it's Flash Red :)

Cool, did see yours at the SCN RR night at Wallace that time but obviously it was dark by the time we got there so couldn't tell it was a different shade of red!

Wee update - Car's going in to the garage today to get MOT'd and hopefully (if the MOT doesn't require expensive work) also finally get my R32 front ARB fitted. Also, after speaking with a local tuner I think we've got a better idea what's causing it to run lean so hopefully there's some light at the end of the tunnel for that. With any luck I'll get the 28 - 30bhp I'm missing at the top end back :)

Proper update - R32 front ARB fitted at last :) Haven't really had a chance to give it any real stick yet but can already feel a difference. Hard to explain, there's an improvement in steering at speed, I don't feel like the car is fighting against me turning the wheel like before and I definitely feel more confident with it. The roads here are still pretty slimy and covered in grit from the recent snow and I'm conscious that I don't have a rear ARB yet and still have crappy tyres on the rear so didn't want to push it too far but will be getting these things sorted soon too.

And some more good news, the car breezed through the MOT, not even a single advisory :) Good job too as road tax and insurance are all due this month as well.

Just need to work out why it's running lean and I'll be a happy bunny again.

I haven't been to see him yet, did speak with him on the phone though. He reckons it's likely to be the fuel pump or FPR. Hopefully will get a chance to get to see him soon.

Fingers crossed it works out so you can progress with this project into bigger and better things.

Oh and meant to say - thanks Willie for putting me on to the R32 ARB, well worthwhile mod :)

It certainly is, good to see the car fly through the MOT despite the problems you've been having. I thought that would have been it for the car after the poor showing on the rollers. Fingers crossed you get it sorted. Your lucks got to change soon surely!

Cheers mate! Well it's basically one (or more) of the fuel pump, filter (changed that already), injectors or FPR, or I guess a split hose to the FPR as well so I guess there's light at the end of the tunnel.

No bother, I've got a whole list of other worth while mods too if you want it, lol

Next thing will be a rear ARB, probably a Whiteline 24mm adjustable. Can't stretch the extra £100 for a Neuspeed while we're meant to be buying a house and I figure the Whiteline will do for my purposes, bit of fast road and maybe a trackday or two in the future.

After those I'm sure I'll pick your brains some more at the local meets as usual, lol!

Right, managed to spend a bit of time on the car at the weekend so a little update is in order. On Saturday I had the help and wisdom of a local tuner (Willie, you know who I mean) who logged my car to try and find out why its' still running lean at higher revs. Looks like it's probably the fuel pump, I've changed the filter since I first discovered this and apparently it's very unlikely to be the FPR.

So I've asked David at Seremotors for a price for an OEM fuel pump, then I'll see if I can change it myself. Logs are below, block 001 shows that the ECU is trying to add more fuel because it's detecting that not enough is getting to the engine, can see this is causing a bit of knock at high RPMs. Not good.

Got my replacement el-cheapo VAGCOM cable (original one was faulty) from the ebay seller today so hopefully I'll be able to log the car once I've changed the pump.

So then on Sunday I gave the car its' first proper wash of the year. Should have taken some before pics but it was an utter disgrace. The footwells looked like someone had laid a stonechip driveway in them so hoovered it all out then a proper two-bucket wash, rinse and dry outside. Got some Autoglym tyre dressing from Halfords but it didn't seem to make the tyres look any better so was a bit annoyed about that. Then it rained and snowed all day today so they'd have ended up looking mingin again anyway.

Couple of quick and ropey phone-cam shots, just cos it looked nice and shiny.

Lastly, am enjoying the R32 front ARB. On its' own it's a subtle improvement for sure, but the steering is definitely a bit more responsive and the car doesn't feel like it's straining against you through the steering wheel. Going to order a rear one to go with it at the end of the month :)

So will need to get something better for dressing the tyres for next time. Any of the detail-fiends reading this, I'm open to suggestions, also looking for something good to clean the insides and outsides of the windows.

Last, just bought a new set of alloy center caps off a member on here so will replace the old, tatty ones when I next wash the car.

EDIT - knew I forgot something... Noticed today one of my headlight bulbs had gone so ordered some Osram Nightbreaker plus ones which will hopefully look and illuminate better, and some sidelights while I was at it to replace the horrible yellow LED ones I bought by mistake last time...

Cheers Willie, I've been out there and bought some things before, they are very helpful (think it was Rich I spoke to) but they obviously sell loads of different products so was just after something recommended by an end-user so to speak. Will probably go there to buy it tho, shame they're not open on Saturdays.

Might be worth trying the FPR, yeah. You about this weekend?

Cheers dav, feel like there might be light at the end of the tunnel now, hopefully it's not a train :) Will the LCR center caps fit your wheels? They're yours if you want em mate but they're pretty scruffy looking, fine for winters tho I guess.
