Liguid gauge ashtray pod.

To bring the screen and joystick as far forward as possible I have also removed the sides of the gauge:

After

the pods been painted black:

and trial fitted to the car:

Am I entirely happy with it

The black paint seems to have brought out a few blemishes in the surface finish so these will need to be dealt with before it goes back in the car.

Cheers for reading all comments welcome.

My rear washer jet seemed to have stopped working so I removed the boot lining and came across a leaky pipe reattached this and now its better then ever. It even hits the spoiler:

Hi RDS,

The LG looks very OEM when in position. With regards to the few groves that you can see in the finish, these can sometimes be difficult to remove with affecting other areas of the pod, especially as it's a delicate piece. The obvious would to apply a further layer of filler to it and the gently sand it down to a flat finish, using a sanding block to avoid any uneven sanding marks. In the past, I've used a filler primer to finish the surface, with good results. It's effectively a thicker primer that cures just as well and helps even out those minor blemishes. It's available at Halfords; thought you might appreciate the advice.

I look forward to seeing pictures of it all finished.

James :)

Since buying the car in July I've toyed with the idea of changing the front slat grilles to honeycomb to match the lower bumper grilles, however I had always decided I had better things to spend the money on. That was until I saw the great job dan (s1 pru) has done with his last week.

So here are the new grilles:

Just one more mod SCN has to answer for

In regards to my Liquid Gauge, I sanded back the pod using a sanding block:
P1020203.jpg

Re-primed it and added a little additinal filler to the bottom to help it sit better in the ashtray:
P1020204.jpg

Thats cling film wrapped around the ashtray to prevent it all sticking together.

It was then sand, repaint and matt lacquer:

P1020211.jpg

Thats a much better finish in my opinion.

In order to secure it all together when fitted to the car I decided to use a long bolt and wing nut:

P1020216.jpg

P1020218.jpg

The main reason for this being I didnt want to glue it all together as it would be a messy job to take apart if I want to remove the gauge for any reason. Also this acts more as a clamp for added security, meaning it wont just come unstuck and fall apart. The wing nut will be out of sight when its all in the car.

Hopefully I'll get this in the car this weekend. It seems to have taken forever.

Cheers for reading.

I've also been out to have a look at the DSG intake for another forum member.
If anybody else is interested in this mod, the headlight surround for the DSG intake fouls on the SMIC. You need to cut this part off the DSG headlight Surround:

Cut the same part off the standard one and glue the DSG one in place.

Saying as the airbox was out I decided to refit my cone filter:

This is what I use to hold the cone in place:

Looks good mate, but you need to get your cone more into the wing tho..

LQ looks tidy!

Cheers mate:D

I need a longer bit of silicone from the maf to the cone.

I wasnt to keen on the cone last time I had it on but I'm planning on getting a 3" TIP in a few months time, so it looks as though it will be staying.

Fitted my HIDs today (H7 55w Pro Max 6000k) I'm very impressed with the amount of light they give off.

Here it is a few hours after completing the job:

:funk:

I was considering ordering new sidelight bulbs as they looked alot more blue then the HIDs like in the first picture, but having looked again I think they go well together!

I'm ordering a hid kit and been asked if my car needs warning cancellers??

Do i need these for my leon??

No worries!!

Just ordered the kit you got lol

Hope you don't mind ;)

You'll love them mate, there a great mod. Did you use the discount code from earlier in my thread? it was posted by George3G.

In regards to the cone, I cant remember why I didnt like it last time it was on the car! drove into town this morning and love it, under full load on the motorway, changed up to 5th and the sound is awesome. I also like the deep grumble when my foot goes down at low speeds. :D maybes it wasnt fitted correctly last time! this time though it gets the big
