HotHatchSteve, which verison did you manage to get it to work with. I'm trying with 805 but when I used it for coding it says I need a license and kills the lead. I've reflashed it but I just get the same thing and it kills the lead again.

Think I'll have to try it with a older version. Cheers

you have got the internet turned off when you are doing this yes? If not it will try update which will then disable the lead. I use VCDS 908 and it works great

Yeah have the internet off, but it still tells me its out of date but dont know how it could know this without internet. When exactly do you need the internet off, just when the cable is plugged in or anytime the software is open? After i've closed VCDS is it ok to connect back onto the internet? Cheers

When ever you have the program open the internet has to be off, if you have the internet on the program will try to update. My suggestion to you would be to delete everything off your computer, reinstall it and do not have the internet on when the program is open. If it still tells you to update there is a program you can download with will change the date on your computer, cant remember the name but a google search should find it for you and that should sort it.

Just had another go and it seems to be working. Did a fresh install of 805.0 and reprogrammed the cable with the net off. Still come up with need license but didnt block the cable. Then tried unplugging the cable from the car and laptop. Plugged the cable into the car first then turned ignition on, then plugged into usb on the laptop and it all works great. Cheers for the help.

£20 cable is that it? How complicated is this? I am a software developer...

Wouldn't mind tinkering and I need to read a DPF light fault also.

I only paid £11 for mine. It's not too complicated, if your a software developer you shouldn't have a problem. I'm pritty good with computers but mainly fixing them. I did mess the cable up so had to mess on with the INF file for the drivers and reprogram the cable firmware to get it going again but after that it seems ok. Just dont go on the Internet at any point with the software on and it should be ok.

ChrisR26, It knows it needs updating because of the clock, you need to set the month/year to an older date. I think it was either Jan 2010 or Jan 2009 then all should work ok.

Hi

I have a 106 vag cable bought from china. But i couldn't make it work not even once. I didn't use the cd came with it. it was 10.6. But people here told me that with win 7 64 bit only 10.6.3 works. Then i downloaded it and tried to use it with my cable. The cable never worked. i think it is bricked now. the led on the cable never showed on.

i have also tried 10.6 came with cable on vista 32 bit and xp. when testing the cable. it says "cable not plugged into car" while the others are ok.

I need a help. i have a cable and a little hope. Thanks in advance.

I've reprogrammed mine but dont know if it works with a 106 cable cos you need the right file to program onto your cable, i could send you the stuff you need in a zip file and you could try it. The cable is probably a 805 anyway, thats why you couldnt get it going. Someone else on here said they couldnt get a 106 cable to work with 106 software. Let me know your email address and I'll send you the instructions and software tonight when i get home.
