Thanks for all of the input folks. I think I am going to keep a hold of it for just now and consider what I could do as I am considering getting 2 wheels aswell next year. well after the winter.

wait til it pops and then shove a 1.4 16v under the hood, would be different and go pretty well.

Could always charge it as well ;)

Having said that you could go for the highest mileage 1.4 MK2 crown. I don't know of many past 120k

I like that 1.4 16v idea, from what car are you talking. I quite like the charging idea aswell, something different and it would be abit of a sleeper.

Well Im on 126k so Im past that mark.

Though I wouldnt say no if an ABF lump of similar came up for grabs at a reasonable price.

Been having a think about what to do about the Ibiza and I have decided I am going to keep it for alittle longer and make even more of a project out of it and there are alot of reasons for this decision so that is the plan for now. :D.

Reading last months issue of Performance VW I have came up with one or 2 things that Im thinking of trying and a few things Im definetely considering doing after winter.

Well after an incident with a stupid pheasant. :censored: I have had to take the Fk badgeless grille off. I had to put the standard back on but before I did I did something different with the badge.

Those are the pictures before it was put back onto the car.

And here is the only picture I have of it back on the car.

Update:

Well there isnt really much to update for the time being. Project is on hold until after the winter so winter will be used to hopefully stock pile some parts ready for next year.

All thats been done in the last few months is that I re-painted the front callipers as the paint was flaking etc.

So here is how it currently stands. Pics taken on the gf's drive.

.

Tried Suj's groundnut oil trick and what a difference it makes, all the plastics are black. Dont think they have ever been as black since I have owned the car. Thanks for the tip mate .

Sorry about the quality, taken on my mobile and the sun was abit of an issue.

Car is currently sitting outside my house looking very sorry for itself due to power-steering pump failure.

And it was proper failure, pulley wheel is no longer on the pump and the auxillary belt is missing. Looks like it has sheared the spindle going into the pump. Had to drive it home 5 miles with battery light on, no belt = no alternator so no battery charging and no power-steering at all.

Thanks for the support guys.

Mike, I have had a dry/whining bearing for a while from that area but it was ok. So i dont know if the -12 to -20 temperatures Ive had in my area last weekend and the beginning of the week have contributed to it, more than likely they have.

It was horrible, massive bang from under the car then the battery light came on, had to drive 5 miles with it on and I got to a round about and had to stop and the lights started flickering but managed 2nurse it home. But steering was really really heavy. Luckily that belt doesnt drive anything critical to the engine, water and oil pump etc, just power-steering and alternator.

Lucky I have a power-steering pump ready (thanks to athers) and it will just be another belt. Will post pics of whats left of the pump when I inspect it in the light.

I bet the ice killed it mate, the pulley on the mazda has been making a hell of a squeal on the icy starts. After some investigation there was ice on the pully causing it to slip.

I'm fortunate with the mazda though, it has two accessory belts and a cambelt so if one goes its not so terrible.

I am glad that all the main/critical bits of the engine, camshaft, water-pump and oil pump all run off the cambelt. So thats the one bonus.

I think it has been the weather that has did it. As it has got colder the whine/squeal I had has been gradually getting worse and worse. And the start of last week it was like -15 or lower temperature wise.

I was hoping to hold off until after xmas but that didnt happen.
