Well today the Ibiza passed its MOT!! :D. Only one advisory regarding the rear brakes not being that brilliant but they were good enough to pass.

After a moment on the motorway with my bonnet working its way open I knew there was an issue with the catch. Had a look at it when I got home and the spring on the back was split in 2 . When it was in getting tyres the garage did a temporary repair until I could get another one.

Big Thanks to Martin M for the replacement catch.

Next on the cards is a a decent clean then possibly a vinyl roof.

Advice and/or Suggestions.

Looking for some help from my fellow Mk2 owners.

Im at the stage where I dont know what to do regarding my mk2.

Dont know if I should keep it as a project and get something else as a daily, keep as a daily and get a weekend toy/project, stick a new engine into it or just strip it and sell it as standard and buy a valver or something else.

Is it worth keeping it as a project, as I mean it has 126k miles on it? An the last year it has cost me a fair whack, so I dont know if I should get ma moneys worth first.

Regarding sticking a new engine in Im only thinking that as I have a really good nick one regarding the rear arches.

Im quite fancying a mk4 fr tdi or petrol fr after seeing the readers ride of a certain white one.

Although Im thinking of keeping the mk2 as there are hardly any of them around me, whereas the mk4 is much more popular.

Help please folks. :help:

this is the time people start thinking about how much they've invested in something that looks like but isn't.
problem is it is what it is, a 10-11 yr old car worth bugger all or possibly a case of the car worth less than the parts put on it?

keep it as a run around? and get a mk3 too :p

I have thought about that option, as I need a car for commuting every day and I would rather put the miles on the mk2 and keep them off a Mk3 Cupra/Mk4 Fr.

I would probably do the engine swap myself, I know my way around a spanner etc and would feel pretty comfortable doing it, plus I have souces if I need help during it.

if your planning on selling the 1.4 with new engine it eg vr6, it will be worth peanuts.

Yep I know it will be worth peanuts, if I did stick another engine in then I would keep the car for alot longer.

Im tempted to just drive it until it breaks and then just strip it and scrap it and during the time save up for something else so I can just buy it cash or whatever.

Keep it till it breaks and don't bother upgrading it would be my opinion. You know it's a good car and most things are right with it, buying any second hand car you run the risk of things being wrong.
Save for something that you really want. If you want 20vt power then buy a mk3 cupra their prices are falling.

Is it a 1.4?
I've got a 1.4 and I had a few plans for it...but then I think whats the point, why not save the money you would spend on the car and eventually buy something more powerful which could then be a better project? If you like the car as in the mrk 2 ibizas, why not just try and find a GTI or something with a bit more power

wait til it pops and then shove a 1.4 16v under the hood, would be different and go pretty well.

Could always charge it as well ;)

Having said that you could go for the highest mileage 1.4 MK2 crown. I don't know of many past 120k
