Cheers for the links and info, Think Im gonna go with the dhgate one. Just to clarify, with this one I still need to be disconnected from the internet when I use it?? I simply install the software from the cd, then when I want to use it I disconnect from the net and plug in the cable (car first, then laptop)?

Cheers

Yes, with the cable i linked before, however some members altered certain files so that the software would not send information out to Ross-tech. I found simply turning off wifi and disabling it did the job. Do it before you install the software. Also with the older versions (I used 704.1), change the system clock of the netbook/laptop to 01/04/2007 so there are no problems.

I would download version 704.1 rather than use the software on the cd provided as some members found that the later versions did not work with the cable. As I said in the previous page, on the website with ships and pirates ;)

When you have done that, start your car, or turn the ignition, plug in the cable for 30 seconds, then plug the cable into your netbook after those 30 second. Start up the software, and it will help you use it by giving you bubbles of what to do.

Yep like you said, the software tries to check for updates and will disable the lead. If you have a firewall it should tell you if vag com (VCDs) tries to connect to the net. The 908 and upward cables are suposed to be more stable, I certainly have found that they are (got an 812.4 from post 36 has well). The latest version is needed for the FL leons. Also if you down load VAG COM (VCds) this can disable your cable if you use the wrong one.

If you use 704.1 there are some features that are not available like on the later versions. I found the problem with the supplied Cd version is the system date has to be accordingly for it to work. Also some cables seem to like to be plugged into the laptop first then into the car.

Features such as? The 704.1 does a system diagnosis, changes coming home lights, hijack locks, remote window opening and closing. It also enables the chirp lock and unlock. If the later versions add any more functionality then let me know, as I will download it :)

For example adaptation for instruments information telling you what the channels are. Dont forget some downloads will kill the lead, plus you can not use the later versions with the older leads.

I can live with my version, plus I don't intend to be updating, downloading etc. Only monitering time to timer, error reading.

Just ordered the cable. Will try the software that comes with it first.

Is it enough to just switch the net off when installing the programme, and every time I use it? There wont be any problems when the programme is not running??

Looking forwards to playing about with it ;-)

That will do fine, If you have a firewall it will tell you when it tries to acces the net and then you can block it has well. The program runs fine it only tries to check for updates.

You can also disable the auto update checks by doing the following (in XP, im sure its similar in vista and 7)

Start > Run > type "msconfig" > click on "startup" tab > uncheck the box for VAG-COM (varies for diff versions but should be visible as update software for vag-com)

quick word on tailgate struts - went to my local breakers today and luckily they had previous generation Skoda Octavia hatchback. For a grand price of £5 I walked away with two struts - 1U6 827 550f

Apparently they're 515nm strong so should be ok. Quickly fixed them on the car and voila! works brilliantly.

I'll take quick vid later on today but I can already see how useful this is. And it is progressive action as well to an extent because it doesn't jump all the way to the top, opens smoothly, just right strength.

Downside is it requires you to close lid with more force but can't have everything!

Anyone got this running on Windows7?

I bought the 805.1 version and the software provided does not run with windows7....

Edit: now got it working :D

PS. cable took under a week to get here :)

I have just received mine and have successfully downloaded the windows 7 drivers but the software supplied not suitable for windows 7.

Can anyone assist in resolving this or point me in the right direction

cheers
