Waste gate flutter

Should the mk3 tdi sport ibiza make noise thet sound like waste gate flutter on the rally cars. This as my friend has just purchased one and although it sounds very good one asks one self if there is somthing wrong.

That noise is compressor stall and it is a bad thing.

my mk3 sport has no noise coming from the turbo apart the normal whistle when it starts pushing air.

Remember that these cars have no wategate.

You do get churping on the waistgates but this sometimes means it needs cutting back on the exhaust side, but this being a vnt sounds like it could be the bearings have you lost any oil check in the intercooler.

How exactly can you get chirruping on the wastegate? The wastegate opens on boost to control the boost level and stop the turbo blowing itself and the rest of the engine to bits. When you lift off, boost drops and the wastegate slams shut - if it does anything else it's fecked. Any noise you get from the wastegate would be on-boost and would be a whitstle or similar noise of air passing through it. No chirrups, squeaks, pops, bangs or whooshes.

The dump/divertor valve opens when the throttle is closed to give the trapped boost somewhere to go, but they whoosh if you can hear them at all.

If the car makes compressor stall noises then maybe the DV is stuck closed?

I don't think that diesel engines have DVs because they have no throttle valve to preserve. That's the reason why pop-offs are useless on diesel engines.

Yes you are right, if you search for diesel dump valve or blow off valve you will see its been covered in detail and they're useless.

Correct, it's more for the compressor safety.

I strongly doubt your Mk.3 TDI Sport is a TDI 90 engine, but check the engine code to make sure.

So how come the straight through Turbo-back exhaust systems give the car that fluttering sound??

Even the 90bhp 1.9 TDi post 2001ish had VNT.
