Dyno strapping techniques could play a part here also since the hybrid is running very high boost and will spin up more agressively than when running stage 2.

what boost does it do on actuator pressure?
dialing it in and stopping it spiking is the challenge.. it took me a whole weekend on the dyno getting speedysteves to its finished condition. Wellys has been on more many hours thus far also.. to get right they take time.

not enough info on here to say much about it.. afr vs boost vs timing etc etc etc
got any dyno plots of the runs? what sort of acceleration rates and what gear used to load with?

what tip is on it? Wellys had stock tip initially and has read 260g/s and with a forge tip this has gone up into the 270's, but his vxr injectors dont cut it and are max'd out.

I have actuatly had to leave the country for a few days, so the car is parked up :(

I am waiting for CR Turbo to confirm which actuator was fitted(should be 9psi), but i think i will need to test it myself.

I have a samco TIP with a Jetex cone, i assume there good, they cost enough, you would know better though.All the Dyno pulls were done in 4th gear to 7000rpm.

I am planning on going to the dyno again next thurdays, we will do a few runs and log everything so we can all have a look at whats going on.

Its not a days job to do a hybrid remap it took my tuner 2 weeks to full map my old 1.8T golf which was running a Gt28rs, Two other tuners tried to map it within a day and made a right hash of it.

For sure, i think it will take a few visits to get this Hybrid going the way we want it to.

couple of points for you.
check what cr supply.. ithe hybrid for welly was spec'd at 9psi, but preload on it made it an actual 15psi... when checked off the car.

my runs are done in 5th on 6spd to help with traction vs loads (its a challenge holding these things onto the rollers)

i am sure you will get there with it.. well worth persevering with it

I'm back.

Right lads sorry for the lack of updates I have been away for the past week.
The plan is now before I go back to the tuner is to make sure all the basics are covered.Tomorrow I plan to leak test the whole boost/vac system, I thought I heard a noise earlier that sounded like a boost leak, i have a leak tester handy so this should be a quick test. I also plan on testing the actuator, hopefully should be able to this on the car, it may be tricky so any pointers would be appreciated.
Then I plan on putting a softer spring in my MBC, it's hitting 1.9bar spikes so I am going to bring this back to 1.6bar.

After that then I will go back to the tuner, is there anything else I should look at in your opinion?

Thanks for all your input lads, i am itching to get this running the power I know it's capable of, patience is a virtue I guess.

Right i just changed the spring in the Forge Unos MBC to the softer spring, this spring seems to give me more control over the hard spring which i am surprised at because its dealing with more boost, but there is it, I have set the boost to 1.6bar and the car seems a lot happier and even seems to pick up better than when it did with the 1.9bar , I guess this over boost was just wasted and making things hot.

Once the road dries out i will get some logs up, but you Defo need an MBC with these hybrids, they have vicious spikes like there little cousin the K04.

n75 can be used but not with too much static actuator pressure..
speedysteves was mapped on n75 to roll in the boost preogressively.. was a pain to get done but worked. ironically we went onto mbc in the end for ease of setting after all the faff of getting the software to do it - lol

it would be well worth tracking fueling, airflow, ign, timing pull, egts and boost to see at what point the higher boost makes less of a gain in performance vs sharp increase in egt's and timing pull.

I am hopefully completing wellys s3 tomorrow with 034 mani on it now and 550 injectors

Thanks Bill, the weather is crap here today so i cannot do any logging as WOT just can't get the power down.

I am following Welly's thread over on audi-sport, it should be an interesting weekend!

Good luck with it, you never know i might make the journey over if i cannot get it setup properly over here.

Thats an interesting point Bill about when is the hybrid at its optimum max boost. Maybe the sweet point is only 300 bhp keeping every thing nice cool and happy.
I will be keeping an eye on welly's Build thread over the weekend for sure so no slacking ;).
R smith, i would love my car to peak at 1.5 bar and hold it to the red line. i think anything past 1.5 bar is a waste and just puts the turbo in a bad mood. This may not get you huge torque levels but it will be a dream to drive. I'm currently running at 1.4bar ish to 1.25 bar at the red line and to be honest it doesn't feel like i've lost a great deal, the whiplash has gone but it still pulls very strong.
Be sure to test your wastegate pressure as its easy enough and get some new logs up if you can.

Getting there

News just in:

Well after getting the bits, bobs and tweaks sorted with the car i pulled a 305BHP and 329Lb/ft on the dyno today biggrin.gif biggrin.gif .I new it was gonna be higher than the last time, the car even felt better on the road.

The map still needs work though, it is too lean up top and the torque delivery is not the best, not smooth at all.



There is still more potential to be had from the setup i feel so i will keep at it and hopefully get it to between 310-320BHP!!! As is it still not performing to its potential and the logs prove it.

Still i am a very happy chappy with this result.

Need to work on the power delivery as seen in the twin peaks graph below.This was on a MAHA dyno ( used by all the big name manufacturers) on 95oct.

Hmmm my feeling would be that you will get improvement in the curves but overall peak power may not go up. Not that I know anything about petrols but I had similar problems when I done my hybrid. Peak power was never the issue it was getting the power curves right and power over the range.

Interesting though so dont give up!

I have been thinking about the torque curve, i would 100% feel this on the road, i am sure it is wheelspin, some other guys have confirmed this has happened to them too.

Thanks, us poor potato farmers over here in Ireland can only get 95oct LOL., this is one reason i run methanol, so in fact i probably running 110oct
