Battery Woes

I'll hopefully find out tomorrow what is going on, as the car is booked in to the dealer.

I've borrowed a neighbours jump-start kit to get it moving in the morning.

UPDATE: Got a call earlier to say that the power was out to the entire street where the dealer was, so they couldn't continue with the battery test that is required before a replacement under warranty can be issued. As the test takes 6 hours and they have no idea when power would return, they have to keep the car overnight. They haven't got a courtesy car available.

Great.

Is it just me ? that thinks a battery test taking six hours is barking up the wrong tree on this one.

Do the dealers never talk to each other when problems like this keep recurring ???

Don't know about a drain on the battery,Seat are very apprehensive they know they have a problem and they are trying to cure the fault via a patch to the on board car computer. My Seat went in to-day for a fix it,Seat Jennings have said they need the car for up to 3 days.I presume the first day is to down load the software patch and the the other two days are to let the car stand and see if the battery loses current.
My car is on a 58 plate to.,
My advise is to ring Seat U.k. 0500 222222 and tell them about the battery going flat.Don t forget to ask for the customer advisers name and make sure the call is logged and most important be polite but firm.

Well the dealer phoned, and they can't find anything wrong.

They've had the battery on charge for 6 hours, and there don't appear to be any drains on the battery. Best they can advise is if it happens again, bring it in again. The guy on the phone was nice about it, and I'm not angry with him or anything. If they can't find anything wrong, what are they supposed to do?

Far from a good outcome, but at least I get my car back.

...until next Monday where after a weekend of being idle it probably won't start again  .

mmmmm.... strange that, as reported in an earlier reply, stealer told the wife SEAT are aware of the problem and they had her car into do an update/mod or whatever! We'll find out if it fixed when we come back from holiday next!

Hi Silent Shark ask to leave your Seat at the Garage over the weekend and for them not to test the the battery till Monday.Once the garage find the car Battery is loosing power and they try to fix it under the warranty, you then have a case under faulty goods.I find out Friday what the prognosis is on my seat. Will keep you informed. In the mean time get in touch with Seat UK.0500 222222

Car's conked out again, this time at work.

It's been sounding progressively more poorly each day this week. I've called Seat Assistance, and the AA chap is on his way. Hopefully now I have enough evidence to get something done under warranty...

so will new ones have this prob too? or will SEAT have done the patch from the factory if they are even recognizing it as a fault, which they dont appear to from the above, as otherwise it would have been a recall right?

i cant wait to try and explain this to the cyprus dealers.....

Probably worth checking the BCM is up to date, there is a flash out for battery drain and some cars being recalled.

how many miles you done now? has it been playing up since new?

6565 miles on the clock. The car is ex-demo, new from October 09 and has been mine since mid-May. I had no problems until I went on holiday for a week in mid-July, so around 2 months trouble free.

From what I've read here, the 2011 model year cars have revised electrics, so the battery ends up in the boot. I'd guess that the problem won't apply any more.

Good idea. Is there anything I can say to the guys at Seat to get them to check? If go to them with 'I read on the internet...', they might not be convinced :p .

Thanks all.

right...

1st thing tomorrow im going to droitwich seat to ask them

ive got a 1.4 se which is october 08 (58 plate)

back in may time i think it was i had a flat battery (ill admit my fault as i left the side lights on) but i hadnt known till i went to start the car it ticked over but wouldnt start so got dad to jump start the car that was the end of it (that was after a week)

ive just come back from a little over a 2 week holiday today went to get the car out of the garage flat battery the date/time/milage/trip computer came on but had reset same as the last time, but not ticking over or anything so i pushed the car out of the garage and jump started it but because of the flat battery last time i went round and checked all the possibilities i.e left lights on or a door slightly open and nothing.

so do you people think ive got a tired battery

just for reference ive got 8006 miles on the clock

thanks

My car is booked in for tomorrow. It's been ok since the Seat Assist/AA callout, but is starting to sound sick again (slow starter motor).

I too mentioned the software update, but don't know yet if my words have been taken on board...

I personally think it could be the battery. If we leave saabs on over night it can kill a battery. Same when the alternator goes takes the battery with it majority of the times. Have you check the acid in each cell of the battery.

Seems strange that its happening after the lights were left on so you could be right about tierd battery. Imo anyways see if the patch helps.

right well them bugg3rs never phoned back so i thought i would charge the battery then take it out for a drive to the dealership spoke to them about it and they said they would need it over night to do the tests on it (which is booked in for next wednesday) thats when im off and the earliest i could do it and i said about what aa said in an earlier post and the person said it was a load of rubbish so i said well i need homebase so ill leave the car on the carpark of the dealership (homebase across the road) so i go there come back to the car and typically i had a flat battery so i went in and booked the car in and told them i need a jump start he was also making it sound like i didnt know what i was talking about (this is a different person to who i had on the phone) and he didnt even know about the issue

Dealer can't find anything wrong, and they don't have any software updates for my car.

I've taken the matter up with Seat Customer Care. Let's see what happens...
