Battery Woes

Battery Fix?

Hi everyone

Hopefully this is helpful. My wife drives a 2009 Ibiza 1.4SE (latest shape) and the battery has always been woeful (lights dimming when driving etc).

Anyway, last winter it wouldn't start and was jump started by Seat's callout service. Cold weather this week and it dies again. This time a neighbour jump starts it.

For some reason I thought I'd try locking it just using the key in the driver's door (as opposed to pressing the lock button on the fob) and hey-ho starts first time ever since (even after a night of -14C). Also battery seems to be full of beans as opposed to normal 'just managed to start' wheeziness.

Downside is that the alarm isn't set? But that's fine for me just to get through the winter.

Hope it helps!

My dealer said that Seat has sent out details of the problem, the range of chassis numbersaffected and upgrade required since the end of July - but it's a shame that no one there seemed to recognise the problem when I have phoned them to report sudden battery draining (for the fourth time) or that Seat has contacted people to make them aware that the upgrade is needed.

It might be just a perception, but my car seems to be responding a bit better and pulling away more smoothly now it's had the upgrade - especially when cold. I saw that someone had reported 'lumpiness in tickover' previously and this is something I have noticed many times since I've had the car - It hasn't happened yet since the upgrade so maybe it's cured as well.

We left our car for over 2 weeks and when we got back it was dead flat, got some jump leads and away she went.

S o what we are saying now is there is a software update that seat have to fix this drain problem, has anyone got a code number for this please ,before we think about taking the car in.
Or is it just called the BCM UPDATE.

I just got my car back today, to replace the water pump and check the battery problem! My dealer knows about the battery problem because they had 3 cars in. I'm not sure if they fixed battery or found out what the problem is. I need to give them a call tomorrow to discuss about it. Excellent service from my dealer tho! Came to my house to pick up my car at 9am in the cold -14'c and left his FR diesel at my house and then he drove my car back after his work!:)

This all sounds very similar to what's happening to me at the moment. I've got a 59plate 1.6 crtdi. Been about the 4th time its died after being left for a few days. It's going into a dealer on Friday. Does anyone have any details about the software update I can tell them about?

Our Ibiza 1.4 SC also suffered this problem after being left for 4 days. AA called out and jump started and OK since.
It is a 59 plate, Sept 59. Also had a previous problem when the immobiliser activated. Again called out Seat Assistance and the guy told my son that the indicator on top of the battery showed immobiliser had activated.
He jump started it, and locked/unlocked the door again I think to reset it.

Should have written down what he did.

I wonder if Seat will be recalling our car for the BCM fault - it was in not long ago for recalls but I do not think that was one of them. Edited to add it was definitely not recalled for this update - was the gearstick cover and airbag recalls it was in for.

my battery was draining after the engine was off, after a week of jumpstarts i bought a new battery. Still the problem remained so took it to the garage, they told me it was probably one of the door control units and would be £600+. Wasnt really happy with that so took the car back and started going through the fuse box and found a loose relay, took out and put it back in properly and has been running fine since!

My battery died aswell after 2 weeks parked in the garage. Seat Assistance came to help me turning the car back on. 3 days after the radio shown: Battery Low message, so now I took it to my dealers so they can try and fix it.

They told me they must charge it slowly for 16h and then test it.

I'm pretty sure they will say nothing's wrong.

I might need to print this thread and make them read it!!!

Regards fellas :D
