I had another go at makeing the Jetex fillter look a bit more attractive in the engine bay today and failed, so I'v gone back to my modded airbox, I also drilled a few more holes in the bottom of the airbox to try and add a bit more induction noise

On a more concerning note when I removed the Jetex there was quite a lot of dirt partical's sitting in the TIP :-o unfortunatly I did'nt take any pictures but Jonjay was there to witness the amount of dirt that was there and we were both suprised, Looking at the fillter from the insdie out you can see a lot of light passing through the fillter so it's easy to see why it let so much dirt through,
So moral is an open cone may let more through but at what cost

Hi

I've just been sent the link to this.
Couple of questions..

How long ago was the filter fitted?
What was on there before?
When was it purchased and from where?

I have sent a link to Jetex for them to see.. in case this is a one off or batch problem.
I know I dont see this issue on the filters which pass thru here.

cheers
bill

Hello Bill
I borrowed the filter from a friend on here just see what difference it made, I am told it's only a couple of months old,
It was fitted to my car for about 2 weeks and I probably did about 200 miles with it.
I did hover the filter from the inside and outside before fitting it.
I was previously useing a PiperX panel and a modded airbox which I have gone back to.

Hopefully it's just a one off.
There wasn't loads of dirt in the TIP but there was traces of dirt/dust in the opening of the TIP.

Hey mate, I have the same filter on mine which I got from Bill @Badger5. I use the car on a daily basis and the filter has been great. I take it off every now and again just to check the car and I don't see the same amount of dirt getting through as you experienced. Perhaps a one off, just your luck ay!!!

The PiperX one worries me..
coated or dry DK?

I just dont like foam filters abilities to stop dirt ingress, especially when they're uncoated (with sticky polymer like ramair/raid use) to catch the dust particles.

Does seem off what you have seen tho.

The PiperX is not coated in oil.
The thing that concerned me was when you held the cone to the light you could see light through it where as the panel you cant

What make of panel do you describe?

Jetex filters are supposed to be 4 layer cotton gauze and have TUV approval, so I would hope at worst what you have seen dirt wise is from other filters previously, like uncoated foams which i have had personal poor experience of allowing dirt through them, and not the jetex as such. it was'nt a new filter but a borrowed one and 'vacuuming' from inside and out could as easily dislodged some dirt from between the pleats.. it gets right inside them.

I can put new jetex along side green cotton and you can see glimses of light, same as on any other multilayered cotton gauze filter. I have never seen one allow what you have described in tho.

I agreed with what you are saying Bill. However having witnessed it, in fact I pointed it out to DK when he took it off. We are both as shocked as you are with our observation...
