Hang in there mate, I felt the same as you when mine gave me what seemed like endless hassle but it's worth it in the end :)

We need pics!

Good luck mate, hope you´ll get it sorted in time. Witch hybrid setup are you aiming for (cr turbos, TD md445) and what map?

Prebs

Cheers bud. Things are looking up! It is a CR Turbos K03 which is running on a Jabbasport map at the moment. The car is getting logged tonight to see if she is happy on that. If the map isn't too bad I will get a Jabbasport associate in Motherwell to tweek it, if it is awful I will get the mapper who is logging it to make me happy :)

The car is running alot better than my run into get its MOT, but I have not taken her above 2500k or 10psi of boost until I get some logging done. I have to say it REALLY feels like it wants to go at those revs so I am really looking forward to opening her up and seeing what's what.

The car now has a fresh year MOT so I am insuring it for this weekend just now.

Unfortunately the only picture I have is of the old ARB against the new one  I didn't feel like another pic of the turbo or all the other bits would be interesting... I will take more pictures of the car and engine bay though as these have both changed a bit since the last ones.

Yeh take it slowy, double check every thing to be sure...

Yeah I am trying my best to, the plan was to get the car ready for Crail tomorrow but I think this is a definite no at the moment, at least down the strip anyway.

So where I'm at now.

The manifold - turbo gasket is leaking again so I have bought a new one and the plan is to replace that. One of the bolts is giving me grief coming out. Makes me wonder if the guy I gave the car to to sort the gasket has fecked the threads again...

So I was trying to start the car to heat it up a bit and it won't start... With suspected fueling problems for some reason (I was thinking because the gasket is leaking the lambda sensor isn't reading corrected and overfuelling? Would that be enough to make it possible?). So I have taken out the spark plugs which were stinking of fuel, so I have left them out which I am going to leave out for while and try again later.

I have also picked up a boost controller to which I will fit after this has been sorted, then I will phone David again to do some logging.

Phew! This better be over soon! Dieing to open her up properly.

The manifold is leaking again!!

What did the guy say he did before to rectify the problem?
Hope this is on the road soon too

Yup...

Got the bugger out but the threads are a mess... Not sure if it was the boy or weather it was the heat going through them. Options are:

1. Retap the threads again to the same size and buy another bolt and hope for the best. Will buy a strong bolt so that if the threads to knacker again it doesn't snap in it.

2. Retap the threads to a bigger size and use a bigger bolt.

3. Retap the threads to the same size and use a stud and nut instead of a bolt... Only thing wrong with this would be if I ever need to take the manifold off it would be a pain!

So I changed the manifold-turbo gasket today (just retapping the threads for now which went well :)), but it is STILL leaking! So I am waiting for it to cool down again and try and clean the surfaces more throughly.
If it doesn't seal after that I'm starting to think heating the hot side to get the stud out may have reshaped the surface slightly... Even though it would take a hell of a heat it may not have liked the concentrated heat that I was putting it through. Would exhaust paste work in such a high temperature area? Or are there better gaskets available?

I got it started as well :) Turns out I had to clear some codes on vag com before it would fire. Unsure what the codes are yet but I will look them up later.

Take a straight edge across the mating faces to see if there both true.
If its only a bit out a file and some emery cloth will sort it out.
I would Helicoil the thread too as you won't be ale to tighten this connection up as much as needed to seal the gasket

I know many of you will have lost interest in this but it's getting there!

I got the bugger sealed! Used some Loctite Copper gasket seal stuff that is good for 350 degrees which probably won't be enough for manifold temperatures but we will see!

So all I need now is silicone hose to fit my MBC and we can get back to logging and see how it runs without the massive boost spike.

I also just ordered one of these:

Should be ok for the amount I use the car but we will see how I get on.

I will also be fitting some other things during the next few days as and when I get round to them. Also giving the engine and car a well earned tidy up!

You will also see a new picture of the current state of the engine bay with all of it's hybrid stuff. Not that you can see the good parts but there a few things different since the last picture.

Will be getting some videos after it's done!

How easy is it to get the original TIP back over the hybrid turbo? I cant remember if you made up a reducer or not

Absolute nightmare! Had to use alot of wd-40 and ended up cutting 4 slits on the turbo end to get it on... Will be fine though as there is plenty of silicone between the slits and the inlet.

Nice one Josh, glad to see you're getting there, stick with it.

I use the same battery and just keep a pulse charger close to hand to top it up every few weeks.

If I leave mine standing for over a week it will lose some of the memory settings like one-touch windows etc. After 3 weeks stood still it doesn't have enough cranking power, so all depends how often you use it.

I think the neighbours think I'm weird when I leave the car outside with an extension lead running down the wall and into my boot :D

I may just keep it connected to a battery conditioner the whole time...
Out of interest, are those lengths of time based on the car being locked with alarm and immobilizer on?
