I'm pretty sure that the Mk2 Leon has an adaptive ECU, as it's the 'same' chassis etc as the A3....

The Mk1 LCR definietly had an adaptive ECU as well.

Shows what Sales Mangers know.... I recall asking the Sales Manager if the Exeo had a transverse engine, to which he answered yes, only to then open the bonnet to be greated by a longitudinal mounted engine.... oh how I laughed ;)
ALL modern ECU's have adaptive learning, which takes about 50 miles and have been around since circa 2002. ..............

I tend to use Millers Diesel Sport additive, rather than paying the extra for V-Power or Ultimate. Works out cheaper to, especially when you buy the Millers from David @ Sere Motors for £9/bottle ;)

I keep meaning to get a K&N filter on mine, but I keep forgetting to buy one!
Have been Millers Additives since 2000 and the New diesel additive "Diesel power Ecomax" appears to provide much better mpg than the early types of additive and 5 Cetaine point gain!! - 5ltrs lasts me 2 yrs

I have it from good authority from a VAG mechanic it takes a couple of hundered miles for the adaptive ECU to settle down and learn. Also if they have been in SEAT cars since 2002 that gives me even less confidence in my dealer :(

170ps ST SE Lux (brand new, started yesterday with 70 miles on the clock) - Did 250 miles in it yesterday with cruise set at 77 - felt like about 30mph but got there eventually :) All motorways / large A roads - A1, M1, A43, M40, A34, no twisty stuff.

Averaged out 45.8 MPG - then later did a couple of short trips which were hovering around the 36-38 mark (again taking it pretty easy for most of the time).

2x 50 mile journeys today involving half motorway, half twisty so will post back on the outcome of that too.

Not too disappointed with that - we shall see if it lasts! Will test on Thursday another 250 miler this time with cruise set a bit higher (say 85) to see the impact on the 45.8....

Oh and didn't see a single other Exeo either - it's nice that there's not many about!

Interesting reading the different comments about adaptive ECU's, the only thing I don't quite understand is if the ecu is monitoring driving style, then why has everyone got their cruise control set way over 70mph? It seems to stand to reason that if you drive fast or hard you are going to use more fuel, regardless of what filters and additives you have.

Yea thats right oldtimer the harder and faster you drive the more fuel you burn, but i think its a realistic reflection in the set speeds people have been declaring as a large percentage of drivers will drive over 70mph on a motorway and personally like many others i think the speed limit is now too low for the cars we drive today, but thats for a different topic

I understand all that, but if you all think the mpg is not good with your cars, then slow down. That's all I'm getting at. I'm sure you will then be getting the mpg makers quote.

Exeo Sport 143 CR. 30,000 miles on the clock.

Fuel type: Standard diesel.
MPG urban: 38-42.
MPG motorway cruising: 50-54
Recent 200 mile journey, door to door, cruise set to 60 MPH on A1: 62 MPG.

While fuel consumption is the topic, the air con compressor has a drastic effect on the above figures, switch it on and you can wave bye bye to 4 to 5 MPG.

Going to do another long run today - 240 miles like Noel down the A1 - will set cruise on 60 and see what result I get so we can do an almost straight comparison between the 143 and 170. Results later (a lot later if I'm sticking at 60!!) :)

Wow! see what I mean guys. Cruise set to 60mph and 62mpg. It's no good whinging about poor mpg if you are going to drive at 80 or more mph.
And air con has always been a killer for fuel figures, as well as mud flaps, and any other stick on bit's.

I cant argue with your logic on that but i have driven a few different cars from the VAG group although they were the PD engine not the CR and varied in brake. My A3 when stnd did 47plus MPG around town and at 90 on the motorway would easily get 53mpg.

Once i had it remapped to 180 bhp, around town i got 43mpg and then 50+mpg on motorway. At 80 it would get just over 60mpg.

A6 avant again i would get about 42 mpg urban and 50 motorway depending on speed.

A4 was a bit better than the avant by a couple of mpg

Passat was same as A4

All of these had the air con on to.

VAG claim the CR is better in most ways in terms of performance and mpg but im not seeing it at all. Its the same weight(ish) as the A6 avant but no where near as good on mpg regardless on how you drive it. Ive ***** footed around with mine and the mpg is still off from what SEAT claim.

I wouldnt be so bothered with the MPG if it was what the book says oh and i tried that millers fuel additive someone suggested and that has given it a bit of a better result and its cheaper to use that than BP Ultimate or Shell V

Does anyone have the DSG box? That would be interesting to read to see if there is a difference

I got 44.5mpg with a fill up of the tank todaywith Shell Vpower. That reflects having climate on during last weeks hot weather (im buggered if I'm gonna sweat looking at the MPG when I can cool down in comfort!!)
Here's one for you. at an indicated 70 mph in 6th, with cruise on & A/C off, the "instant mpg! readout is 55mpg.

Anyone agree (on the 170PS engine, this is?)

As mentioned I took my 170ps ST SE Lux on a 250 mile motorway trip today - set the cruise at 60 and turned the aircon off and got a steady 55.3MPG over 150 miles - then it got hot so I turned the aircon on and it knocked it down to 54.5 over the next 100 or so.

Not too bad I guess - but I did feel like I was going to be overtaken by the world and his wife! And I am comparing it to my old 1.9TDI Polo which got 54-55ish no matter how you drove it so it's a bit of an unfair comparison given the extra power and weight of the Exeo...

Stupra I will test the 70mph in 6th with cruise on and ac off in mine tomorrow and let you know what I find. Ideally on the same bit of road too - did you do yours on the M1 (see you're from Northants) by any chance? As I'll be going back up that tomorrow.

I like your thinking why look hot and bothered when you can be cooool lol

Stupra - yep I get 55mpg at 70 in 6th with no cruise, no A/C, on a flat road.

Managed to eek out 643 miles from my tank over the last few days - 550 of those miles were motorway with cruise set at 60mph, 30 miles through london in jams etc and the rest driving steadily on country roads.

I then refuelled and the computer was saying 825 miles left. But then I got bored and put my foot down as I wanted to get home - and watched the 825 miles reduce to 520 over the course of 100 miles :) It definitely highlights the difference between driving at 60 and driving at 85/90!

Thats the price you have to pay for speed! Its not so much going that fast, its the acceleration getting there (ie foot to the floor!)

Recent journey from just outside Ipswich to huntingdon got me dowm to 44, needed to make progress shall I say, but when the A14 went to its usual 50mph, the mpg rose back to 46,.

andyj

There's no F in Quality..
Going to fill up on the way home from work, and work out the MPG for the tank with a calculator rather than going by the on-board computer.

But, when I popped in to town at lunch, I happened to watch the trip read 666.6miles

Got another 20miles left in the tank according to the read-out, so I reckon 700miles is do-able, as I havne't been driving that sedately this tank.... ;)
