Im interested in seeing what your Exeo is like on fuel please say

Ive only had my car for 6 days so im not yet qualified to put my findings forward. Im off to Selby this weekend so ill put something up on Sunday.

I thought i would add the tech data for reference which is got from SEAT website. The data seems the same across the ranges

Mine is an Exeo Sport 2.0 TDi (143CR) with approx 11k on the clock, with the following stats:

Fuel Type: std diesel from Asda/Tesco
BHP: 143
MPG Urban: ~47-48
MPG Long Run: ~54-55 (cruise set at 80mph)
Miles out of tank (daily commute): ~580miles
Miles out of tank (long run): ~650miles (long run to Devon and back, and a couple of days commute)

I did a 200 mile run today and got the following results and im not impressed

Exeo ST SE LUX 170 CR
Fuel Type: std diesel from Esso
BHP: 170
MPG Urban: ~31
MPG Long Run: ~38 (cruise set at 85)
Miles out of tank (daily commute): ~475miles
Just done 6500 on the clock

In comp my A3 143pd engine did

MPG Urban 48
MPG Long Run 55-60
Miles out of tank 450ish (its a smaller tank)

Once i had it re mapped to 180 bhp i got
MPG Urban 43
MPG Long run 51

My Exeo is running very inefficient and im unsure why. At this rate it will cost me another £10 a month in fuel against the figures SEAT give on their website

The ECU's are 'adaptive', so they lern your driving style, and adjust the fueling etc to suit. So if you've been driving enthusiastically, then the ECU will be fueling to support that driving style, so when you then try driving economically, it's still fueling for the enthusiastic driving!

Might be worth disconnecting the battery for 30secs to re-set the ECU, and then seeing how it goes.

BHP: 170 std but bluefinned to 200bhp ish
MPG Urban: About 38
MPG Long Run: 48 with revs at 2000 @ 70 mph (as verified by calculator, not trip, as its about 2mpg optimistic)
Miles out of tank 700 (with careful driving on dual carriageway)

Thanks for that advice Andy. How long does the adaptive ECU take to learn? On my A3 after re-map i was told to expect the best performance/fuel ratio etc after about 500 miles. If thats the same for the Exeo ive already done 350 miles worth of driving since picking it up. Would that not start to learn optimal fueling and turbo timing etc? Oh and to reset the ECU learning memory to factory i was told you need to leave battery disc for 20 mins then position 1 on iginition for 5 mins then idle for 5 mins. After that ill need to adjust clock and a few other bits and bobs like electric windows

Ah Ok, you might be right then with regards the ECU reset. Not tried it on the Exeo yet!

Does anyone know if transporters disconnect a cars battery when delivering a car via the car transporter?

I spoke to SEAT Stoke and they said the battery is not disconnected upon transport.

Incidentally, my Exeo has done about 550 miles under my ownership and today i took my wife back up to the hospital 20 odd miles away. 2 weeks ago i only got something like 30mpg today on the way up there i got 48mpg driving no differently. Although on the way back i got 37 mpg. It must be up hill on the way back lol but that is the kind of mpg i was expecting from this car not 28 to 31.

The only thing i can think of is the ECU learning map was reset and its had to learn again. I enquired about this at SEAT and they looked at me with very blank looks so i had to explain what an adaptive ECU was. I gave the manager there a crash course on what they do and my experiences with them between my A3 and this one. He was unsure if any other SEAT has one.

I'm pretty sure that the Mk2 Leon has an adaptive ECU, as it's the 'same' chassis etc as the A3....

The Mk1 LCR definietly had an adaptive ECU as well.

Shows what Sales Mangers know.... I recall asking the Sales Manager if the Exeo had a transverse engine, to which he answered yes, only to then open the bonnet to be greated by a longitudinal mounted engine.... oh how I laughed

Chassis dont have anything to do with the ECUs of the car its the engines and systems that will depend on the ECU.

I may have spoke to soon on my improved fuel consumption i only managed to get 30.00mpg today and that was pushing the realms of boring driving. I cant work this out something is a miss somewhere there must be

I find I get wildly varying MPG too. I have had a lot of long A road runs recently, getting ~50 mpg. But then two days of pottering around town and it seems the last quarter of a tank went in about 50 miles

I guess you didn't get your car new then?? Who owned it before? Just wondered what type of driving it may have had in a previous life.

It will be a bit expensive, but let it get really low on fuel. Fill her up with a tank of Shell V power deisel. monitor the mileage & check MPG with a calculator, not the trip.

Do this for another 3 times. Drive it very carefully, see if it cleans injectors, let ECU settle doewn. One tip, dont go over 2000rpm on the main roads, you'll be surprised at the difference a little restraint will make.

Also, look at e-bay & get a replacement panel filter. how clogged up is your standard one I wonder.

Check tyre pressures. 33psi in the front, 30 in the back. Check it on a cool morning, before the car moves.

Hi Stupra thanks for the advice. I have already checked the tyres, oil and filter. I want to get a k & N anyway so will do that in a few weeks. No i didnt get my car new it was owned by SEAT UK in Milton Keynes.

Does shell v and BP ultimate actually work? Also at 6k miles the injectors wont need cleaning well, they should not need cleaning even at pottering about they shouldnt

I tend to use Millers Diesel Sport additive, rather than paying the extra for V-Power or Ultimate. Works out cheaper to, especially when you buy the Millers from David @ Sere Motors for £9/bottle

I keep meaning to get a K&N filter on mine, but I keep forgetting to buy one!
