Another small update but nothing much to report, last night I had intended to swap over my coils and plugs before logging the car both before and after removing the WMI connection to the MAP sensor but I'm still waiting on the seals for the bolt-down coils from TPS. Hopefully these will arrive today.

In the mean time I tarted up my lights with some LED replacements for the rear number plate and sidelights which are a definite improvement.

I also ran some logging on blocks 118 and 020 as before (with everything still connected) and found some really strange behaviour. It seems there are intermittent communication issues causing errors; at one point all readings for block 118 were in red and read ERROR for Absolute pressure, then I had a warning dialog for "Too many communication errors" and on one occasion Absolute pressure read "Cold" :blink:

CFs also gave some intermittent weird outputs, and I'm not sure how much of this is down to the flavour of VAG COM I'm running... When these errors appeared on-screen the subsequent logs that I'd saved show time gaps where nothing was recorded.

Aside from this I did see Absolute pressure register more than 1000 mbar but while it's still misfiring under load there's not much I can really take away from these latest logs. I guess a broken MAP sensor could attribute to weird readings and communication issues in VAG COM, but then so could the WMI controller tapped into the same wiring.

Once I've changed the coils and plugs to hopefully eliminate the misfires I'll try logging again with the WMI connected and then disconnected by cutting the wire to see if there's any difference. If not it's going to be a painful exercise of checking all the wiring to the WMI controller...

Robbie, when you done the brake lines what kind of fitting did you use on the end?

Also have you had any bother with the IC pipework popping off with it not having beaded edges?

They were M10 ends but I'm not sure on the exact type, my mate who fitted them had a box of different types and just matched them up.

As for the IC pipework I did get these beaded in the end by Bill as with the boost I'm running it was only really a matter of time before one gave way, even with the t-clamps. I'd definitely advise getting them done if you can, just for peace of mind.

its one wire to check to the map sensor RObbie - you still not checked this?

I'll be checking it as soon as I get the coils sorted this week Bill, as it's missing under load as it is so I'm not really getting true figures (slow progress I know, free time has been limited lately).

I ran out of time the other night and was thrown off when my live logging showed the MAP sensor registering over 1000 mbar at times, though also throwing a lot of errors and "cold" readings. Block 020 was also showing erratic readings at times.

We put a multimeter on the green wire running to the MAP sensor to check for continuity which seemed fine, but will try before/after logs by disconnecting the WMI wire once the misfiring is sorted. I'll keep you posted of the outcome.

Right, small update...

Following repeated missfires under load and VAG-COM throwing codes on all cylinders I decided to replace my 10k old plugs with a fresh set of NGK BKR7Es and a full set of bolt-down S3 coils:

Looking over my old plugs cylinder 1's tip appeared perhaps a little dark but all others were "normal" and certainly no signs of running lean as my wideband gauge had been telling me a few weeks ago or any visible detonation damage to the electrodes. Looks like the ECU had managed to pull out enough timing without the methonal being injected while the timing offset was still advanced (now reset to 0). The logs from the last run on the RR show peak CFs of 11.3 so cutting it pretty close.

Once these were all replaced we then took the car back out to collect some VAG-COM logs, which still gave really weird readings for both blocks 118 and 020, many out of range (in the millions) or just "error" or "Cold" for actual boost... :confused:

The one good thing was the misfiring was now well and truly cured and the car felt much much stronger under boost than before. I then decided to try my luck with a new MAP sensor to see if this was the culprit for my non-functional water/meth but still no joy - pointing all fingers to the WMI controller.

Following some checks I was asked to carry out by Devil's Own it turns out the wire that feeds off of the MAP sensor is not reading the correct voltage when the engine is running so something is clearly amiss here. There are no bad earths and the pump itself has power. So... the ball is now back in Devil's Own's court, just hoping they can provide a fix soon so I can get back to full power. Watch this space...

Last weekend I also decided to head over to GTi Spring Festival at Pod, though didn't bother running down the strip while the car is not running at it's full potential. Overall I'd have to say I was a bit disappointed with the day though caught up with a few people which was cool.

After a good snow foam, clay, rinse followed by 3 layers of AutoGlym SRP and a top-up of Extra Gloss Protection finished off with some Megs Last Touch on arrival here's how she looked:

Overall an enjoyable morning at Cheddar Gorge on Sunday with a serious amount of very rare, powerful and downright desirable machines, from a 6R4 to a Diablo to a K1 attack to a Corvette engined E36 badged as a 325i and pretty much everything in-between :) In total I think there were close to 200 cars which took over the entire gorge.

same coils i have on the car been on for 4 years soon so have never changed one yet mine is just revo stage2 with k03 turbo:cry:

yeah definately a good turn out at cheddar. Weather made it really. ended up going to weston after and there was a water cooled vw show onlong the sea front. It was worth a look.

Just sat here and read through the whole thread. It's safe to say I now have a sore ass and my eyes hurt...

What an awesome car! Just wish I had the drive, determination, money, space and knowledge to have a crack at doing something with my Mk3 TDi 110...

It's been a lot of hard work (not to mention money) but it's other people's appreciation that really make it worth it

After ongoing wiring tests and emails to Devil's Own they've finally admitted liability for my non-functional water/methanol injection which seems to be down to a broken controller.

Now just hoping they can get it to the UK in time for my ring trip in 3 weeks, fingers crossed.
