Well, after what turned out to be a painstaking 12 hour drive over we made it in one piece - Brussels in rush hour is no fun at all
Saw a fair few nice cars on the way, most of which ended up here in Nurburg too and even ended up playing with a 430 Scuderia once into Germany
From a rolling start at around 80 he'd pulled ~8 car lengthes by the time I noticed I was sat off the clock
He couldn't quite seem to get away at least, though whether he backed off at the top end is anyone's guess.
Once we arrived in Nurburg it was 10:30 so a cheeky lap was out of the question and we ended up grabbing some pizza and a couple of beers. The next morning I checked the car over and noticed I'd used half a litre of oil on the way over (~500 miles)
I'd emptied the catch tank before I left and when I drained it again it in Nurburg it had caught about 50ml, hmm. There's no visible signs of any leaks or smoking, only a brief puff when I first put my foot down after cruising/idling for a while, then nothing.
Something to keep an eye on I guess... I topped it back up and decided to back the ignition timing offset back to zero to be on the safe side just in case, especially with low-mid 20s ambient temps. Oil pressure and temps read fine all the way over.
With that we went out for lap #1 and it turns out I remembered a lot less of the track than I thought
All in all a very sloppy first lap, but finishing just within 10 minutes going loosely by the dash clock only.
After that I brought it back in to cool down and check my levels which have stayed where they were, phew. I'm tempted to fill it with 10w40 next time when I saw how thin the 5w40 is in these temps. After that we spent most of the rest of the day spectating at various points around the track and getting well and truly sunburnt.
This morning I headed out for laps 2 and 3, with things going much better than yesterday and a best timed lap (BTG) of 9:21, that's more like it! I believe the car is definitely capable of mid 8s with a better knowledge of the track, not to mention better tyres.
The Rainsports are good allrounders but they soon started screaming and by the last few kilometres you could feel the tread blocks moving all over the place, with one interesting moment on a curb
Anyway, that's it for now - just off to check out the new exhibition centre before a bit more spectating and a couple more laps later on once everything has cooled back down.
