Thought it said it all in my post Andrew? Yes they are much stronger.

It is a tad smaller than I thought it would be however it is a dual cone filter so it doesnt need to be massive.

The Apexi dual funnel Power Intake has evolved from the Apexi Super Intake filter with some subtle refinements in the design and filter element. According to Apexi, this resulted in a 10% reduction in pressure drop by utilizing an upper and lower funnel. The Power Intake reduces air turbulence within the filter and creates smooth air flow into the throttle body. Maintenance is kept to a minimum as this filter is a dry-type air filter and will alleviate the problem of filter oil from "wet" air cleaners, interfering with the air-flow meter.

Brad - all of it is shiny mate just a bad picture of the pipes. The lower bit actually needs to be adjusted as its touching a part of the engine and causing vibration when accelerated in a certain rev range. With the air filter and new MAF car does feel quite rapid.

as for this filter im wondering whether it would fit onto the carbonio pipe or if it would be pointless

I havent recieved them yet which reminds me I got to chase Regal. Soon as I get them will write a full review as normal.

Very very strange your ones keep snapping. They only fail if you are really low or drive through massive pot holes. These VF ones are million times strong than OEM ones so will sort your issue for sure.

very nice car. I was wondering if you could help me out with some paint correction on my car. Got some other thing that I would like to talk to you about. Please send me a PM so that I can contact you later on.

Still makes me chuckle.

You won't log any appreciable difference on a dyno because the fans they use are incoable of replicating real air movement at 80+ mph.

You won't log any meaningful data on the road because too many variations occur.

What you can say is that a bigger filter will allow more air to be sucked in but at the speeds you can get to, even illegally, ram effect isn't going to take place.

Therefore, he who has the biggest free flowing filter will do best.

I'd like to see someone who knows about fluid dynamics do some maths on just how much air you can flow down a 76mm MAF housing :)

If you can only flow so much air through the maf then trying to supply extra is pointless, unless it sounds better which is the real reason for doing it.
I've read several articles around the net about high airflow filters wheter they be replacement filters or direct cone filters. noone ever could prove they are effective besides the sound and the placebo effect they came with.
I am afraid if you let more air trough the filter you are also letting more dust in. (yeah, I know what K&N states...)
I really would like to see someone is proving me wrong.

You cant measure g/s on TDI's unfortunately.

At the end of the day, so far, I haven't lost any performance however I have gained some. This is mainly due to new MAF i think tbh. The whole reason for me going down this route was due to the airbox trapping water cause of the twin cold air feed. What i have noticed with the intake is that picking is much better and until i get another RR (dyno lottery and all) I wont know whats happened.

Car update
-----

Car is at Hayward and Scott again to have the lower pipe redesigned as it was causing vibrations as it was touching the chassis. The turbo outlet part of the system will be made into more of a funnel shape and then go into the full bore pipe as there isn't a lot of room there. I am thinking that will actually flow better anyway.

Also noticed that the intercooler SFS fixing popped out from the intercooler. This just infuriated me as I thought I finally got rid of that problem but obviously with the power of the car it still there. Soooooo H&S will be making me this ( thanks to Black Turbo TDI for making this diagram nicked from festers thread :) )

boostclamps.jpg

I am just so miffed that VAG decided to the plastic fittings to an intercooler as good as the PD150 one.

Oh and H&S will be making me a heatshield ;)

thoughts
All in all I am a little deflated with it all. Sort of questioning whether I should carry on modding the car as it seems to be more and more money to fix failings in the way the 150PD system has been designed. TDI scene is all about custom this and custom that and I am worried that if the above doesnt work then i will have to invest in forge intercooler which means even more money. I suppose I would have gone through all same motions with petrol...
