don't go on them website's mate, try going on the actually website, i find it alot cheaper. the first 4 years i found churchill the cheapest, try them? ohh and put your mum and dad on it too but with you bin the main driver. then the insurance think that they will be driving it as well, so there will be less chance of claiming even if there not going to be driving it ;)

Have you seen the insurance costs for 17 year olds today? £3,000 is quite cheap lol. I managed to get £2000 but that was from a 1.1 Ford Ka '01 Reg. And I'm sorry, but I'm not driving one of them  :headhurt:

Cheeky bugger :p Trying to make me feel old!
I know what insurance is like for a 17 year old It was only 4 years ago I was one! First car was a 1.2sx Ibiza!

I know what you mean, To be honest, 1.4TDI you'd be a fool not to, Their amazing cars and with a remap your easily seeing 100bhp with an ass load of torque

For your insurance you could always put your mum or dad as the policy holder but just make sure you get a policy that allows named drivers to get a no claim bonus - this is what i did cos i just turned 18 and i know the pain of the cost of insurance lol! My insurance cost me £2100 last year and is looking likely to cost around £900 this time round

My 1st car was a lupo 1.4tdi. Now there good cars to remap and for insurance. 1st Year driving and was only £1500, with mum and dad on of course. Had that car for 2years and upgraded to a Audi S3 2000reg, remaped that and insurance was only 1500again with mum and dad on. Had them on untill this year. 21now and there starting to make in more expensive. lol. Bought my self a Cupra Tdi. Fantastic car, not as luxury as s3. nor as quick but i bet it isn't far off. but a hell of alot cheaper to run, not putting 60quid a week in anymore. only 20quid. although insurance is more on the cupra for some unknown reason which i must admitt leaves me confused.

Haven't sold it yet either, waiting for private plate to come off of it before i do.

But i'd always go for a turbo diesel unless your alot older, earn a lot more than i do, and want something that's insanly fast!!

I'd probably do the same, get a 1.4tdi to start of with then after a few years look to get a bigger engine.
I had a 1.2 Corsa for my first 2 years driving (insurance started at £1900 )
Now im 20, 2 years no claims, 2 years experience, Fully comp in my own name for my FR and im paying £1050 :)

And like everyone else says, a tdi is much more tunable when you want to start modding. I only bought my FR 3 months ago and I thought I wouldnt touch it - But thats starting to wear off and the modding head is on now :p

So from asking if a Sport or a Formula Sport is better for my first car? I have been told neither and to get a TDi? (Reference Sport). Well urm, thanks guys? :cartman:

I will post up a Readers Ride once I purchase a SEAT. So keep a look out!

Oh just a quick one, I bought my fr tdi when i was 18 and paid 1400 on insurance (3 points 1 year ncb). Also that year i had a group 13 mazda and that only cost 1550. Try using admiral with your mum or dad on as a second driver and then try elephant and churchill ect. If you use a comparison website first to get the cheapest companies. Then go on their own websites and re do the quotes. Then take those qoutes and ring each company up intill you get a good deal. I did that this year and Im paying 970 with the 3 points and my coilies declared. Honestly you'll be shocked at the quotes if you properly shop around.
