You need to have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor before you change gear, yes.

why would it be any other way?

could be gear box linkages too

Possible syncro issues? Does it crunch when engaging or just stiff? Better when warm? Checked transmission fluid all ok?

it doesnt do it all the time only sometimes but you have to smack it in reverse, was thinking gearbox fluid may need doing or something like that. I dont think its got a quick shift, ill get some pics up later of the selector so someone can confirm this. If its the cables is this a cheap fix?

Thanks for the help guys

I have the uprated INA Engineering ones that were about £120 from memory.

The gears are good on these cars you only have to pull and push the lever to put it in gear and with hardly any effort. you only have to push the lever over when changing from 4th to 5th.

If you have a crunch in any gears thats defo the oil level in there. top up or change the gear oil. i had a slight crunch from 2nd to 3rd i changed the oil and it never happened again the gearbox is lovely. I changed it with the standard vw gear oil from the dealers.

Quick shift there would be hardly any movement in the gear lever when going through the gears.

Its easy to change the gear oil just a tamperproof spline socket you need.

Just looked in the draper catalogue and theres one in there for these cars for 6 quid.

You could get a full service done but i dont think the gear oil is included you will have to tell them that you want that doing aswell.
