Totally agree FR_Flavoured - let us know how you get on with the MTECs once you've tested them...

I'm taking the Mtec bulbs out at the weekend and going back to my Ring Xenon Max +100% bulbs. They might be a bit yellow but a least I can see the road better at night:)

Phil, agree that the "upgrade" is only really worthwhile if the lights perform better than standard.
However from feedback in this Thread, it appears the MTEC's while providing a more piercing white light (which looks great), however dont light up the road as well!

If it turns out that there is not enough light emitted to drive safely and actually see whats coming up around the next corner, I will be going back to OEM straight away! Safety comes before asthetics !

I mentioned in my post that no coating on a halogen bulb (llike the MTECs and PIAAs) will create more light. They may look brighter, but will not be more intense (ie. more lumens) This has been proven by David Stern Lighting. www.DanielSternLighting.com - Good Blue and here www.Danielsternlighting.com - Superwhite.

They have also proven that higher % bulbs have a shorter life than standard bubs.

I removed the Mtec bulbs earlier and put the Xenon Max's back in

Okay they dont look as nice as the Mtec but it's nice to see the road ahead a lot more clearly :D

The Mtec's will probably end up in the for sale section

Hi Phil, well I went about fitting the MTEC Side and Dipped beams last night.
The reason for no pictures.... Didn't like the look :( , so went back to standard !!

Both the MTEC side lights and dipped, looked less bright than standard bulbs.

Also for me the MTEC Dipped Beam had a "Blue" tinge to them - And thats exactly what I DIDNT want, when upgrading my bulbs - I thought these would be purer White, but this obviously is not the case. Also to point out, the ones I have are the 3750K MTEC and not 6000 (which are even more Blue)!

Snap. Fitted the MTECS yesterday and they are a dissapointment. Not very bright. Don't light up road signs enough. Should have just paid the extra and gone for Phillips ultra vision in the first place.

The stock bulbs are better than these.

Big thumbs down from me.

I bought these from the same Site - EXTREME WHITE XENON SIDELIGHTS...
http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501-W5W-Xenon-Extreme-White-pair.html

It's a con. The Ad states "These bulbs have a blue colour to the glass and project a daylight white light."

I agree they have a Blue colour to the glass, however when I fitted these in mine (which I believe are the same side lights others have used here?) they infact dont shine daylight white - more a dim tinted Blue (with not so much white)!? Anyone else agree, or was it just me? LOL.

Another disappointment. :(

Which? have just done a test on headlight bulbs rated in comparison to a new Astra test vehicle with HID headlights.

Lux=light intensity

New Astra HID - 164 lux (dipped)
Bosch Pure Light H7 - 141 lux
Osram Night Breakers H7 - 97 lux
Philips X-Treme H7 - 102 lux
Halfords Super Brilliance H7 - 90 lux

Standard (OEM) H7 - 91 lux

(No info on bulb longevity in the test)

The Bosch are supposed to be available at Halfords but aren't on their website and I can't find anywhere else selling them :(

I've never bought those bulbs but have had them as a free gift and agree that they aren't up to much and I reckon I now must have about 3-4 pairs:rolleyes:

I've got the Osram Cool Blue sidelights fitted again and whilst not white they do the job and match the Xenon Max bulbs very well

You might have to go to a store to buy them

These could be worth a look but I seriously do not need any more bulbs as I've already got:

Ring Xenon Max 100%
Philips Xtreme 80%
Osram Nightbreakers 90%
and the not so good Mtec's

I've decided to ditch the H7 Mtec's as their illumination of the road is worse than standard bulbs, and I've now fitted the Bosch Pure Light's which according to the Which? report has a higher light output than both Osram Night Breakers and Philips X-Treme even though they are not marketed as upgrade bulbs!

Initial impression is very good, definately brighter than my old Osram Silverstars and priced similar to Night Breakers at £10.99 per bulb at Halfords.

I've not driven on unlit roads yet but I expect them to be very good.
