No where near a stage 2+ cupra

Power's not everything :p

ST's make very high torque low down, much higher than their competitors. My old ST only made 280bhp, but hit 364lbft, 80% of which was available at 2000rpm.

360bhp/360 torques no st or vxr for that matter on standard turbo can get near a stage 2+ cupra/ed30/s3 down the pod :p

I'm sure they can't! I'm just saying, the ST makes its power differently. It suited me better as I'm a lazy lazy man, who never wanted to change gear, and I doubt the VAG 2.0TFSI on a standard turbo makes anywhere near as much torque as the ST's 2.5T down at 2000rpm.

e.g. Superchips stg 3 Leon (337bhp), only makes 175NM at 2000rpm

stg 3 ST (305bhp), makes 325NM at 2000rpm

Low 13's mmmmm ok, also when your driving it like you stole it your above 4500rpms anywhere so its kinda irrelevent.

figure of speech mate, when your having a play your not driving it in the low rpms are you. Anyways ST's arnt slow by any means but they carnt keep with a stage 2+ k04 2.0tfsi.

lol, you had to in my ST as the power ran out far too early ;)

Joking aside though, I used to love the way you could leave it in 3rd gear and fling it around the country roads. Sure, you never went quite as low as 2000rpm, but just working it from 3000rpm to 6000rpm, the power band was wide enough for you to hardly ever change gears.

Isn't the K04 a bit more peaky?

On the drag strip I'm sure the Cupra would annihilate it (I never got below 14, and that was with a Quaife LSD), but on mixed driving roads, I think the gap would be a lot closer. Unless you've got DSG as well of course ;)

no you carnt get dsg with the cupra :w4nk: (for some daft reason), but yeah on the twisties would be fairly close and would depend on driver abilitiy imo. i think even if you messed the start up the cupra would still catch up. Yeah the ko4 comes in strong around 4500 and keeps pulling.

Interesting talking about this only tonight! I had a small go against a dream science focus st at 262bhp from my town and with me side by side putting the foot down on the by pass from about 50 onwards i could keep away from it and then we ran out of road. I don't know about really high up but ceratainly up to substantial speeds i could keep away and that's in my stage 2 diesel!!!

not surprised with 20hp less and an extra 100 ft lbs of torque. 262bhp isnt that abit low for a mapped ST . how much does a montune get with stage 1?

262bhp sounds about right to be honest.

Mountune 'claims' 260bhp, but it's more likely to be 280bhp based on times etc.

Don't forget though, you can't buy an MT remap, it's the remap, intercooler and air filter all fitted by Ford.

In gear acceleration with 432lbft would probably bury any petrol hot hatch out there though, at least until 4000rpm :D

I'll be honest i don't know a lot about the focus st, but he had it rolling roaded before and after and the increase was 35-40 bhp gain. He's got one other small mods since, closed induction kit and the car hasn't been rolled since apparantly:shrug:

So montune basically take it to stage 2 but without the exhaust which is essential because the 2.5ltr 5cyl sound nice :D. Also wish Seat would do some tuning packages, they really are missing the boat with that one.

I think the whole 'stages' thing is a bit vaguer on the ST.

Mountune do now offer a sport-cat, turbo downpipe and cat-back (rebranded Miltek IIRC) but it voids the warranty (unlike the 260bhp kit), so it doesn't get pushed as much.

Yeh lol, at 50-55 i just stuck it in 4th right on torque, and put the foot down and that takes me just into 3 figures lol. To be honest the st was a fast car, but i pulled away quite a wee bit, but again i dunno really high up what the outcome would be. I don't mean to high jack a cupra thread so forgive me, but it's amazing how many peeps under estimate diesels lol even he was sceptical and then very surprised!!

All that torque at low rpm is useless when ragging a car. Plus going WOT at such low revs will only kill your clutch anyway.

ST's even with mild big turbo conversions are still slower than the stage 2+ plus cupra

Poverty you need to get that car up north mate!! I would love to have a shot in that thing!!! :D

lol come down south when there is next a big car show or cruise, and then after we can go to the local strip , there are 30 pound a night hotels right by the strip aswell once things get quite around half 3, 4 in the morning :D

I want to see what your car is capable of aswell, not many people around with dpf deletes, so would be good to line your car up against a series of different hatches and see how things go.
