My DPF light came on last week and i managed to clear it.

It then came back on Tuesday and it hasnt seem to have been cleared.

I have booked into the dealers for next week. They have advised me not to drive it.

Why is this? What will happen if i do drive it?

My only knowledge on the DPF is that if the light comes on then it means the filter is blocked.

Giving the car a blast can sometimes clear it out but i'm not sure why they have told you not to drive the car... maybe possible damage to sensors etc ?

Its the first case i have seen where that advice was given by the dealer.

If the DPF is blocked and can not be cleared by the cars own means, soot will then build up and damaged the DPF and maybe the sensors, as it stands at the minute, the dealership will clear the DPF themselves, if any further damage is caused by yourself driving the car after being warned not too, damaged will have to be paid for by yourself and I think a new DPF is in the region of £700 plus labour to fit it :( If that was to become the case, it would be a better option to have the DPF deleted by a tuning company like AMD at a cost of around £800.

My light has come on 2 or 3 times so far, and to clear it, i just drive at 2k rpm in 4th gear for 10 - 20 mins on the motorway and it clears it. As per the owners manual instructions, has happened when stuck in really bad traffic that morning.

Left it into Seat, had the sensors checked and nothing wrong with them supposidly

The car has goine into limp home mode because you have not followed the correct regeneration process when tne DPF light came on!

The DPF light does not indicate a fault, it means you have to drive the vehicle at 40-50 mph in as high a gear possible with revs between 1600-1800 without stopping until the light goes off.

This is laid out in the user manual! Have a read!

If the engine light is not on, be prepared to pay for a forced regeneration if they do not find a sensor fault!

I now have all three lights on the car

Taking it to the garage tonight so they can take a look first thing Monday morning.

It should be all covered under the warranty right?

Well, hopefully you will get it sorted under warranty. A mate of mine works for VW and they have now started refusing a lot of DPF issues under warranty. If there is a faulty sensor, fair enough, but IF it is due to the correct procedures not being carried out after first signs of the DPF light, they refuse to do it under warranty. All hell is breaking loose there!

Just curious about this, is the procedure simply to get the engine up to optimum temp to clear the filter? would the engine not heat up just the same if you were going slower at 2k rpm, lets say 2nd gear 20mph or something

A DPF gets very hot during regen so the managment system will only let this happen at speed so as not to present a fire hazard. Generally you need to be doing 30mph+ before a regen will occur, although it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Also just to add, "giving it a blast" is not the answer. This will produce more soot and not help the issue. You need to do 1800rpm ish constantly (cruise controll would be a good idea here) for long enough for the light go go off. Remember that once the light is off the filter is not totally clean but clean enough for the light to go off.

does anybody know where the G450 sensor is as i have the same problem as most, Exuast pressure sensor implausible signal. my 06 altea fr is just out of warranty and have had quite a large quote from seat to do this. got the vag com lead and software, will this be an easy fix?

if its already in limp mode, its a dealer visit as they are the only ones who can force the regen process i believe - its not available in vag-com. :(
