the reason for a freelander is that I think i just want something comfy and i fancy going off road and hopefully I'll have a boat, If not a freelander then probably a merc c class, either a big diesel or a C63 AMG ... even the CLS or possibly a scirroco.

i am going to get a TTS suits what i need and our engines plus 4wd :) and its snowing lol

Personally I can't think of anything to give me the performance/handling/grins for the £15k my Cupra stands me in at, I'd have to spend SO much more and also love the fact that it's not supposed to be that fast!!

The car is fantastic, lets get that clear right away. It goes like :censored: off a shovel, and corners very, very well. The cars SMG paddle-shift gearbox is also so darn responsive...

It probaly is (almost) the perfect handling small sports car, and according to EVO mag, when they raced it against a full fat V8 M3, the 335i with SMG was faster to 100 MPH (thats a 0-62 time of <5.5 secs). No Cupra could possibly beat it in speed or handling...

For me, thats part of the problem. The car is so good it's almost completly boring to drive. the negine tone (inside the car) is muted, and there is no sense of speed like there was in the Cupra. and, try as hard as I can, the back end NEVER steps out.

Thats not the main reason for selling tho. It's a bit more basic than that - The running costs are beyond a joke. You need VERY deep pockets to keep this thing going from A to B. A routine service is £800+ (Needs 2 a year), it has frequent oil top-up's at £18 per litre (Common on Bimmer forums with this engine), rear tyres are £350 a piece and last about 4000 miles only (On my 5th complete set of rears already), insurance is expensive (almost 3 X that of the MODIFIED Cupra), it drinks fule like it's going out of fashion (Average 14-16 MPG) and BMW dealers are rude and arrogant.

I can just about afford to drive it each month, and the extra costs I had not counted for at the time of buying soon stack up after nearly owing it for a year. I have very little cash left for socialising etc, and want to sell it to purely save some money. given just how much cheaper the SEAT is to buy, run and service, the savings over a year would be somewhere in the region of £5-6000!!!

Thats why basically, even tho it is a better car than a Cupra overall...

Disagree. All the negatives make it a worse car overall, even though it may be faster / better handling - that is if you like the BMW version of handling (i don't) which is shocking as soon as you get off smooth A roads. I've tried a lot of BMWs and the only one i've truly enjoyed was the E92 M3.

You're also forgetting that the 135i exists. Not tried it but heard it's a really good drive - far better than the rest of the 1 series or anything (barring the M) 3 series.

Of course then you have the problem that if you drive a 'beemer' everyone will assume you are a w***er. Whether this is better or worse than being considered a hirdresser for driving a TT is a good question :shrug:


At the end of the day, i'd still say a Ginetta is superior to all the above. All the rest are road cars made fast. The Ginetta is a racing car made road legal. Easily the best looking too.

Actually, just thought; i've never actually seen a ring time for a Cupra - either standard or modified. Anyone know different??

Sorry but a std 335i even with smg isnt quicker than a full stage 2 plus cupra.

Have you guys not seen the vids of a 350hp ed30 walking the new m3? ;)

Doesn't mean much if it's just in a straight line. If that's what turns you on (and from your previous posts it clearly isn't) you may as well get a yank muscle car

Outside of a racetracks compund though you never get to push your car to its limits handling wise on public roads. With pure straightline speed you get alot more oppurtunities to have fun with your car, as santa pod is cheap and rwyb days are frequent.

As for 335i, I agree a tuned Cupra would have a standard 335i, but I am not sure a tuned Cupra would have a tuned 335i ;)

that is true actually, I should rephrase my sentence lol.

the 440hp 335i's are out of reach of a cupra I would agree aswell.

TT RS is a coupe and by defenition not a jack of all trades.

What about the VXR8 then?

I'm not a VX fan by any means, but that looks like a hell of a lot of fun - even if it's not quite as refined as an RS4, or as clinical as an M3 it does handle very very well. Ideal for the Pod or for some cheesy grin inducing hooning around A and B roads.
