Worrying noise on partial throttle

I posted a thread a while back about a 'tingling' noise on very light throttle.
Seeing as a few others were getting the noise, I thought it must be normal.

Since the remap, it's got louder...

It's now changed to only 'tingling' when at boost threshold- on partial throttle & at any RPM.

If I open the throttle further, the noise seems to dissapear.

I cannot tell if the noise changes into the whine of the turbo, or if I cannot hear it over the turbo.

Any ideas?
My car is going back to SEAT over other issuse & wondered if they would be able to diagnose the issue.

I have taken that cover off completely before and its an absolute pig to go back. Ended up breaking it and put on a new one.

How would you suggest checking the roller by the way? It is under tension with the belt.

Are you a VAG mechanic out of interest? I would go ahead and get the timing belt changed at the 30k service if i thought this noise would disappear although i am sure that after all these miles, its nothing that serious, but i guess if you are right, it could be. Funnily, this noise started on mine just after i changed the cover now that i think about it.

Why would it be worse on a mapped car though?

I have seen rollers break up on the ECOTEC engines use by Vauxhall- the plastic coated surface would go brittle & break off leading to devastation!

Surely this would be making noise all the time- not just at boost threshold.

Is there a particular cambelt roller that goes- has it been superceeded by an upgraded part?

If i'm checking for cambelt tension then- 3/4" play in the belt & able to twist the belt through 90 degrees. Correct?

And checking for a loose cover?

the roller is the one at the front its about the size of 10p just where the bottom cover meets the top one

I took the car back to SEAT. They aknowledged a rattling noise on partial throttle, but they could find no problem.

The service manager said they've never had any issues with cambelt rollers- but seeing they could not trace the issue, puts an element of doubt in my mind.

I've done a bit of digging on an american VAG site- i've saved it on the other computer, so will link it up tomorrow. Seems to be quite a few with the exact same noise (albeit lower down the rev range)

Looks as if there are two trains of thought.

1) Heatshield on the flexi pipe is rattling when compressed
2) Wastegate rattle- some sort of linkage on the turbo.

I want to get this resolved as it sounds like a bag of nails- exagerating slightly:D , but non the less...I don't expect this sort of thing on a newish car.

Would SEAT even be able to look into this, or would they just throw parts at it until they resolved the problem?

Would I be able to take it to a specialist & they could bill SEAT for the warranty work?

The word remap in your first post will put a stop to any warranty work going on there. If you have a selectable map, does the noise still exist when running in "stock" mode?

Well, the car was making the noise before the remap- you only have to check my post history to see that.

I'll have to fight it with SEAT if it ever came to that. However, they did say, warranty work would be carried out if it was found the remap was not the direct cause of any problem

It would seem there are plenty of people with this issue- modified and standard alike..

Well I will be watching this with interest because it has bugged me for ages now but does not (so far anyway) seem to be causing any issues with the car. Good luck bud.

I have the same issue from day one, exactly 10.000km, and I noticed the same noise on two more Cupras, one tuned and one standard. My car is stage 2, but the noise was present from new...
