Update:
Downloaded another version of it and loaded up straight away, no problems. Need to go and see if it will connect to my car now.

Ooo, can ya post me a link please :) or PM. Just see if I can get either one working.
Once I get that done, its a matter of sorting out VWTOOL.

Inspired by Deltron's howto (I know is the commander) I thought I'd give my VAG Tacho cable another bash this afternoon.

I started by doing the connect any system and it recognised the system. I then went through each of the settings and I had a successful connection with the "VDO Old" setting. All the buttons lit up and I could Read the EEPROM (although in the bottom bar it kept saying access denied!), hit the read PIN and it didn't do it either.

So partial success. May have another play when I have more time.

And dippy it is! If you're doing keys there are others which seem to work better. GOOD LUCK!!!

I ran my copy on Windows XP. You shouldn't need to actually install anything other than the drivers.

If I were you I'd get the software that came with the cable working first, as this is the only one you can be reasonably sure will work. You mentioned you had installation problems, can you post any error messages or screenshots?

Oh right, With vista, the drivers for the usb interface installs automatically. But trying to run the software, doesnt have the enough rights to access the program. I bet its vista thats causing the problem and will get XP installed instead for the time being.

The other versions I got off the internet seems to load up the program no problems though..

if so try installing it in the root folder. ( c:\ )
microsuck tried to make it harder to install any programs that may have been harmfull.

You should be able to just run it straight from the disc, or failing that just copy the folder to your desktop and run it from there. There is no real need to actually "install" it.

Update:
Got Win XP on my laptop, worked straight away! Got my key code :D!!! Only took seconds to attach and read the ECU.
Going to have a try of the built in key learning function soon and get the new key paired to the car.

Glad it worked for you. Can you tell me what car it is so I can add it to the howto as a confirmed?

Let me know if you have any problems with the key matching and I'll try and get around to writing a guide at the weekend. :)

Seat Leon 110 TDI ASV.

Is that with the current program or with VWTOOL?

I prefer VWTOOL as it only does exactly what you tell it to. I'm not even sure the procedure in K+Can Commander works.

There are also some data blocks viewable using VWTOOL/VAGCOM that are relevant to key matching. For example, you can tell whether the transponder has already been matched and locked to another car (if this is the case then the immobiliser will never accept it!).
