Engine start has funny sound?!

It wasn't until someone said it, and it has me slightly worried. But when I turn the engine over it produced a juttery sound just before it starts running idle.

A friend says it has a similar sound to "idle cams"

has anyone else noticed this, or now I have said it does it bring it to your attention.

I have a seat service booked in less than a month so it will be worth a mention, but just for the time being.

thanks

No such thing as idle cams.

do not press the gas pedal, turn the key and don't release it till the engine runs smooth.

I am curious about the starting procedure. When I start from cold sometimes the engine takes a while to turn over. It never actually fails but just takes a second or two before it takes. I think I will post a you tube link of it.
Anyone else notice this?

Mine had this issue until I uprated the fuel pump. I changed the spark plugs, ran some injector cleaner through the system and no change.

Soon as a new fuel pump went in has been perfect since. Is yours a petrol?

Must admit this is the first car I have owned in a while that doesn't instantaneously 'catch' when starting from cold.
It always takes a split second to turn over before firing up. Frankly I think its normal.

yeah i have a 'strange' sound comming from mine to, noticed it the day i bought it. it sort of stutters for a second before it catches. its probably not strange at all, but i came from a button start system so its the first time ive had to turn a key for a while and so at the start thought i was doing something wrong.my gfs petrol yaris doesnt do it, but her sisters petrol polo does. its worth mentioning at the service, and asking them to start yours while you listen, then to start another with the same engine so you can hear that too, see how they compare

Always press the clutch while starting your engine. Additionally take your time before turning the key completely to start, allow some time for fuel pressure to build up and then start.

I didn't know any of this. Why do you press the clutch when starting? Surely they should mention this in the manual? I will try though.

Someone mentioned the clutch thing to me years ago and i must admit that i dont do it on a regular basis.

My old Octy vRS used to sound cluncky / tappy for a few seconds when it first started and i always give any car a few seconds on the second click of the ignition to prime the fuel pumps etc. The feul pump on the vRS actually primed when you opened the drivers door !

I have been trying this for the last few days and it seems, so far, to be working. Any ideas how this works? Why does the fuel pressure build up when in the half-way position on this car but not on others?
