Sound system question

Does anybody know if all of the models use the same sound system or is there a difference between the models? Also is there any difference between the sound system in the 5 door to the 3 door? Finally what is the sound system like (assuming its the same in all models) because I find that some smaller cars have that tinny sound?

afaik, it's the same headunit in all models, the sport version has 2 extra speakers (dash mounted i suspect) as opposed to the 4 speakers in the other versions, (front doors and rear doors) (again, im guessing) there was a thread a bit back discussing the sound in the new ibiza, the gist of it was that the sound was better in the 5door ibiza, in the 3door it tended to distort for some reason.

The extra 2 tweeters in the 1.6 Sport are in the front door pillars, next to the front window. The HU's are all the same, bluetooth is an "add-on" to the standard HU. The sound system in my 1.6 Sport sounds fine, not tinny at all.... i know this sounds daft but have you played with the bass/treble settings ?, i've got mine set to bass+5, treble+9, Mid+3

Andy

i think the standard system is really good, i have been into car audio for over 7 years, and i think its easily one of the best.
I had a brand new VW Golf MK5 Sport which had a 10 speaker system and i will admit, that was good, but i think the SEAT is better for sound quality.

I have added a subwoofer to mine, running standard Headunit and it has a perfect balance of the bass and the treble and mids.

The ability to adjust all the setting (treble, mids, bass) really helps the setting up.

Just curious, how easy is it to install a subwoofer with the Ibiza MK5 radio ???.

Are there standard connectors on the back of the radio or would i have to buy adaptors ?.

How did you wire it into the power ??. I can wire a car radio in, but i've never had any experience with subwoofers etc.

How much of the boot space did it take up ?

Best Regards,
Andy

That would be awesome tur8o boi !. However, there was a reason i was actually pleased you hadn't written one!! - i feared i would have to go out next day and spend best part of £150 on a kit !!!!!! ;) . . now looks like i might have to go down that route anyway, however this time i have my secret weapon,. . . . it's called . . . . my Christmas money yee ha !

All the best !,

Was it easy to do ? (for a novice), and does it make a big difference ?, how much did u pay if you don't mind me asking ?, did u use power from the boot (is there a live line in the boot ??)

if you have fitted one before then it isnt too difficult.

the main difficult bit is the power cable for the amp from the battery.

apart from that, the only real fiddly bit is routing the cables.

did you want to run the standard headunit or switch to a new one?

Never fitted one before, i did look into the idea of a new head unit, but that's gonna be too expensive and i like the one which is already in (apart from the fact it doesn't play mp3s from a USB stick, but that's another story !). So yeah i'm gonna stick with the HU and want to get a decent subwoofer in the boot. It's gonna be a balance between sound quality and size (as i still need the boot for a few things, car seats, pushchairs etc!).

DO NOT POWER YOUR AMP FROM ANYTHING APART FROM THE BATTERYthe wires in the car already are not good enough to carry the amperes that your amplifier will use and it will be a fire hazard

there is a live line but its not good enough, just remember to earth it to the chassis (anywhere near the spare tyre, just scrape away at the metal so you have a clean contact)

i used the standard head unit and wired the remote cable up so when the ignition is on the amp turns on not sure what the parts called but i will get a pic of it

i have a 15" fusion sub lol, i had it in my old polo so didnt want to buy a new one

for my power i drilled a hole through the firewall and used a rubber gromit so it is sealed, then i passed my power cable down the middle of the car and my phono cables down the passenger side, do not cross these wires as you will get interference, the remote wire can go with the phono cables

not sure what else to add these are just the basics, if you have any other queries let me know

it will be easier to explain when i can get pictures, too cold outside to get them now though
