The random/multiple cylinder misfire code always comes as as part of a misfire detection.

Only on serious misfires will a fault code and Engine light appear.

Yeah your there Dan. i was not even aware of the misfire. I regulary run vagcom through just to see how things are going and i got that code about 4 times in all on standard zorst.

I would have a guess its something to do with the back pressure in the back box. I know my K1 had a definite gas rush when on the power - due to the gases not being able to escape quickly enough - too restricive. When i had a look at my o/e cat it was beginning to show serious signs of heat damage.

Well having had my car on VAGCOM there are (as you may expect) no error codes.

There does seem to be some surging issues when the car spools up, and these may be coming from one of two areas (air intake restrictions from running standard engine cover OR OEM exhaust cats restricting gas outputs to the rear).

We ran the car on the road with VAGCOM and as it was a hot afternoon (25 deg C) we noted the timing was dialling back to -4.0 / -3.8 under full load robbing quite a significant amount of power once intake temps were rising.

We are going to fit a spray bar onto the intercooler in the next couple of weeks (from a Subaru Impreza), and next week I am going to see a man in the know about air filters to mock up a CAI.

The exhaust for now will just have to wait, but I will fit new plugs and clean up the coil packs.

I did notice when sat at standby if you rev the car, as it backs of it's popping quite a bit more than it used to as unburnt fuel gets chucked out through the exhaust system. I do wonder what effect this may have on the cats, and how long the system may last.

We came to a conclusion at about 8pm that night that I am wasting my time chasing dreams with these little tubby lumps. I went out in Andy's 911 Carrera 4S and I think I am now convinced that at some point next year I will sell the S3 and get a second hand 911 or M3 CSL. I'm getting VERY tired of running round in circles trying to get the performance out of a small engined turbo, and the only way to get consistent power is to get a decent capacity engine to start with pushing 350bhp+. I will then get it supercharged and leave it at that. I'm pouring good money after bad down the drain trying to chase short lived dreams that don't last here.

i have missfires , had them from day 1 , stealer knows i have missfires , i have no fault codes but when logging all cylinders for missfires on vag com , i have had 38 counted on cylinder number 3 on tick over :wtf:

Seat dealerships just say they are within parameters.

My exhaust pops on gear change and when coming off the throttle has done that on standard from day 1 , have had the full exhaust system changed twice under Seat warranty but it still pops.

i have just resigned myself to the fact it happens and feel a bit happier knowing that a lot of other 2.0 tfsi engines are doing the same , but i didnt say i was happy [:@] , in fact far from it , no engine should be suffering missfires like this , vag are fully aware that it happens but have not come out with a statement or technical bulletin to address it.

I personally think it is to do with the PCV recirulating crap vapours and moisture back into the system , there have been numerous postings of the intake valves with massive carbon deposits because of this crap system.

Strange we use top fuel with cleaning additives to stop the exhaust valves and injectors being clogged up but then let down by a sub £30 part recirulating rubbish back into the intake system.

I will be fitting a cai in the coming weeks as long as a well name tuner gets their fingers out , and when that happens i will check my intake valves and if they are gunked up i will be taking it up with the stealers and also fitting 1 of the various PCV fixes that are out.
