Remapping the tdi cupra, worth it?

hi guys,

Simple question really....can you feel a noticable difference when you remap the cupra tdi to 190-195bhp with no other mods?

its fair enough it been down on paper stating my car puts out more, but is it top end? or more grunt down the lower revs? my car wheels spin quite easy and im not heavy footed but im guessing that will happen more often if you get it done??

i hope i dont sound stupid, i had a run in with an integra type r tonight and he couldnt get past me, which i thought was impressive for a standard cupra, suprised me

let me know what you lot think

thanks

guess the torque will help the wheels pin easily. but its definately worth it, the in-gear acceleration would be vastly improved.

cheers mate..3rd gear is always a bugger for me

Get it done its worth it. 44k trouble free miles with my remap from Custom Code, who by the way will come to your house and do it for you.

The standard Pirelli's wheel spin quite easily if its wet/greasy but try Dunlop Max Sports or Parada Spec 2's and its a different story. In the dry I have no trouble getting grip at all.

I find with my CC remap it pulls quite nicely up to 5k as well. As standard anything near or over 4k was a waste of time.

If you can't decide on a which map, Revo offer a FREE 5 hour trial of their map. This is 5 hours of engine running time, after which it reverts to a standard map again.

The alternative is a map by Jabba. There is garage in Habburn, near Newcastle, called MB Motorsport who are the only place in the North East to sell Jabba maps. I don't know what they are like or if he has a Rolling road, I only know him because he runs a very quick Audi TT Supercar at Rallycross events.

thanks for all the replys lads and the tyre info aswell as im going to be buying some come october..very helpful forum!

the mobile mapping sounds spot on and very easy but i'd hazard a guess, getting it done on a rolling road is always gonna be better? and if so, a revo place is only 20 miles away or if that dude who does the jabba maps is any good in newcastle? you have his number mate?

going off topic here slighly but has anyone here (more on the diesels) put a nitrous setup on the ibiza? and was it worth while, as the diesel kits seem fairly cheap for the increase in power? obviously i know you have to keep topping tohe bottle up, installation fee etc

I have checked Revo's site. Stupid question#1:- how do you get the free trial? do you book with a commitment/ what do you get i.e. full check as if fitted permanently or just a plug in software change and off you go.
stupid question#2:- if you told your insurance then how much did it go up by OR is it obvious thay it has been done as with an add on "chip"
ALSO would I need any other changes i.e. brakes/suspension/intakes or can you get away with just a chip? I have had the car for 3 years and more power would be fun.

didnt know diesel nos kits cost less than petrol ones? as for questions one - i dont think revo do free trail of diesel just petrol. 2 - it should go up as u r going up in power, how much, how long is a peice of string as they say. you dont NEED to do any other changes, cupra has decent brakes already from what i was looking at other day, the other engines need a upgrade tho

Who would you use up in the North East? Do you know anybody who has VAGCom. I want a transponder programming when I get it.

Nitrous costs is the same for petrol or diesel really as the main expense is setting it up on a rolling road.

Start from around £130 for a single point dry kit second hand & go up from there really. The kit I helped install was a dry (no fuel solenoid) single stage, jetted for around 20bhp gain (a lot on a 100bhp 1.2 8v engine). The system was supplied as separate parts & cost little more than £250, the extra fuel was controlled by the ECU & ignition tables etc were mapped specifically for running nitrous. That took 2 days on the rollers and about £300 worth of nitrous to nail the maps. The result was spectacular though, 50% torque gain at 2500 & a 20% power gain at 6700.

That sort of a gain comes at a price though, if you're talking N/A engines you essentially have to prepare the engine as though it's going to be turbo conversion but don't lower the CR. The owner found this out when he cracked all 4 pistons in half. One bottom end latter with high CR forged pistons (£450 ish) & it seems to be reliable.

Interesting use of nitrous by someone else was run the fogger just in front of the IC exit on an Evo, they jetted for something tiny like a 3bhp gain with the bottle lasting well over 1 hour. Though the nitrous didn't deliver much gain of it's own the charge temp dropped to around 10C below ambient which delivered a huge air mass gain going into the cylinder & the ability to run stupid amounts of ignition advance.
