Remapping the tdi cupra, worth it?

Start from around £130 for a single point dry kit second hand & go up from there really. The kit I helped install was a dry (no fuel solenoid) single stage, jetted for around 20bhp gain (a lot on a 100bhp 1.2 8v engine). The system was supplied as separate parts & cost little more than £250, the extra fuel was controlled by the ECU & ignition tables etc were mapped specifically for running nitrous. That took 2 days on the rollers and about £300 worth of nitrous to nail the maps. The result was spectacular though, 50% torque gain at 2500 & a 20% power gain at 6700.

That sort of a gain comes at a price though, if you're talking N/A engines you essentially have to prepare the engine as though it's going to be turbo conversion but don't lower the CR. The owner found this out when he cracked all 4 pistons in half. One bottom end latter with high CR forged pistons (£450 ish) & it seems to be reliable.

Ouch, not sure how much it would be worth adding to a diesel like the OP is thinking. never seen it on one

Nitrous isn't a cheap option, if you treat it as such for big % gains it'll bite you, if you're going from 60bhp & 83lbft to 120bhp & 135lbft on stock internals stuff will brake, it's that simple. The from what I understand the real bitch with nitrous is that when you jet for say 20bhp you'll get around a 20bhp gain ANYWHERE in the rev range, so at 1500rpm that's a 70lbft torque gain.

For a diesel application using the stock ECU you'll have to splice into the fuel supply, work out where to mount the fogger to give an even dose of fuel & N2O or multi-point it. Or you could use it at low levels & map around it to give a big boost at WOT due to charge cooling.
