Once I saw the oil in the TIP, I was 99% sure that that was the problem, and the engine would be fine. Always good to double check. Nice having mates own a garage Get things done cheap, or do them a favour in return

find out in next few days if catch can resolved it, accidently broke dip stick housing then again , now have 3 peices

I still think issues like this (puff of smoke after idle, and during startup) on ageing cupra's will come down to Valve Stem Oil seals, mine included.

so how does worn stem seals cause it to smoke? and how does a catch can prevent it

if the stem seals are worn, a catch tank wont prevent the smoke..... the catch tank just stops the smoke caused by a build up of vapours etc
