Where to get a hybrid turbo from?

What boost was/is it making?

You be supprised just how hot it can get through not having a capable cooler.

As i said in my last post, anything over 170ish, and you could really be doing with a FMIC.

Whos the car mapped by?

It was boosting to only about 20psi before the map, car was mapped for a couple of days with 25psi peak before the turbo went. AmD mapped the car. Although I now know the turbo was struggling before the map, just didn't recognize the very early sounds.

FMIC is deffo on the cards, maybe I'll get that fitted aswell before putting the new hybrid on but TD didn't mention any of this to me, I clearly told them I had a SMIC and said nothing.

Once they have your money there *******s!

When I returned it they called twice searching for an excuses within my replies. Tried to tell me the wrong oil had been used the bloody swines.

sounds about right there nice guys but from what dealings i had with them very very disorganised

Indeed on my latest dealings I was told my turbo would be repaired "because we can't put our finger on what went wrong" not because "we're terribly sorry our turbo failed on you again, have one on the house!"

Then continued to threaten me that any future warranty claim would go under testing and oil would be sent off to a lab. Well why aren't you doing that this time to give me a definitive answer as to why your turbo has failed me again!

I was also promised my turbo would be built and sent out on Friday for Monday delivery.....rubbish! Turbo was built on Tuesday as it said on the build sheet and delivered Wednesday. I had no call from them to warn me of any delays, pathetic!

i had the exact same thing they called me for my address cos they lost it the first time THEN sent it to p-torque because the man i spoke too forgot to tell the other man where to send it!!!
but of course its never anyones fault

I have a CR turbo, which is running at about 18 PSI at the moment. I bought a new 1749vb turbo an dsent it to CR for the hybrid treatment. They seemed to know what they were talking about straight away, unlike TD which I took quite some tiome explaining that the PD150 turbo would fit my engine :shrug:

Good stuff.

To others, perhaps oil temp and exhast temp should be watched closly as well. If a FMIC is not fitted you are just going to compound the amount of heat going throught the system, which is bound to have an effect on turbo life?

Mine is doing exactly the same as yours. I dont think its turbo related mnore like a sensor issue. I believe my map sensor does not like the oil mist going throught the intake so I am fitting a catch can soon. Going to do a trial test with some 22mm hose, venting the ccv to atmosphere for a few days to see if makes much difference?

The engine cover would not fit over the pipe work, but you can always make your pipework to suit.

Cost of the ProVent is about £130 ish. Lot on money for a catch tank, but it is a high quality German built bit of kit which will do the job properly: they are used in industrial engines!

I can't see why my SMIC would cause the turbo to self destruct especially when the turbo hadn't even been pushed. Now I had been driving pedal to the metal from the minute I put the turbo on I could maybe understand it dieing in under 1500 miles BOTH time, but since I was well behaved doing the 'run in' malarcy and driving like an OAP I doubt the SMIC would of caused any issues as it would of dealt with the heat being produced by the little boost I was using.

here's how i'd see it;
the air gets hot as it goes through the turbo, intercooler cools it down, into the engine, combustion, out through the turbo, exhaust

exhaust gas warms up the turbo and thus the intake air. if the intercooler isn't cooling the air enough as it passes through, temps will keep rising throughout the whole system, the oil in your engine will keep getting hotter eventually boiling, metal expands when hot, thus something will break......

have TD asked anything about the intercooler?

Yep and now read the rest of the sentence you didn't put in bold, I can't see see heat causing a problem when I haven't used it properly.

To clear my case up thought TD were actually right, my oil was in a right state. I sent off a sample to be tested and confirmed what TD had said. God knows why they didn't do that themselfs though, so they did themselfs out of a warranty replacement.

Car is now sitting on the drive with a 130 turbo, undriven for a week waiting for a new head gasket on Monday.

Will get the hybrid back on once I stop loosing water and my oil tests out fine after 500 odd miles.

Yes TD knew I had a SMIC. Surely I would get heat soak, turbo would try and boost more to compensate, I would see this on the boost gauge and then ease off.
