Where to get a hybrid turbo from?

I have just had my 2nd turbo dynamic turbo fail on me within 1000 miles.

Has any one used anyone else for a hybrid PD150 turbo?

HELP!

Mine from Turbo Technics is fine at 13k but its only mapped to around 220hp. So its probably not blowing hard for long? Cost was about £560 exchange.

Cheers will look into them.

My map was only reaching 190, as I asked for a mild map due to only having a standard SMIC still.

Well today TD have agreed to rebuild my turbo on warranty, but I'm not sure I'm too happy about it, I've lost a lot of faith in them.

I have spoken to CR Turbos too and they are my next choice, I'm considering calling TD tomorrow to say send the bits to them so they can rebuild it instead.

when it wants to work its fine but sometimes the trbo feels as though the veins are sticking and not letting enough boost through so it smokes loas and has no power and other times the turbo hold2 bar for too long and i have to lift off and wait a few seconds before booting it again! its weird but the turbo will be going back to TD at some point when i get the time to take it off

Mine is doing exactly the same as yours. I dont think its turbo related mnore like a sensor issue. I believe my map sensor does not like the oil mist going throught the intake so I am fitting a catch can soon. Going to do a trial test with some 22mm hose, venting the ccv to atmosphere for a few days to see if makes much difference?

carl since having my turbo apart and understanding how it all works, sticky veiens would not be intermitant. they would stick open or close. you could have a duff actuator. I would take some logs of boost from the map sensor using vag com, see im there in line with your gauges.

but hope you get it sorted soon. good luck

My turbo is due back Monday which has been repaired under warranty because " they can't put there finger on what went wrong" no apologies just a half arsed explanation.

They also threatened my future warranty saying should it happen again my oil would be sent off for analysis, but I fail to see why they haven't done this sooner as from some quick searching I can have my oil tested for 30 quid!

Today I called them to request a refund instead telling them I don't trust them anymore, but this was declined.

I'll be sending a sample of my oil off for testing anyways to check it for myself.

Any one with hybrid though look out for a change of tone revving past 2000.

I don't think the mapping was to blame at all.

At one point it was running with no map so it was barely boosting and when I did have AmD do me a custom map, it wasn't boosting very high at all, which TD approved.

I would be very suprised if its actuator relatd Karl.
Try replacing the map sensor and get a 150 item if you have not already.
Make sure you have some dielectric grease on the maf connection. I did mine again last night, loaded it with the stuff. Made an instant improvement to my car. Make sure you wipe the face of the connector clean if you do it.

I have a hybrid PD150 turbo from CR turbos, and its seems very good, but I am not stressing is at the moment as the engine is not tuned to its full potential.

Its interesting seeing all these threads about TD hybrids failing. I know a few people running them, and have been for a while, on aggressive maps, with no issues whatsoever.

I think you have pointed out the problem yourself already though.
The SMIC really isnt up to the job of running 190bhp.

On stage one mapping my intake temps were through the roof running SMIC.

Id have the turbo from TD, and invest the money you would waste on a CR turbo, on a FMIC.

Another thing i have noticed is, all the failures seem to be on re-conned turbos.

Myself and the others i know running hybrid, bought new units. Perhaps this is where the issue is?

I can't see why my SMIC would cause the turbo to self destruct especially when the turbo hadn't even been pushed. Now I had been driving pedal to the metal from the minute I put the turbo on I could maybe understand it dieing in under 1500 miles BOTH time, but since I was well behaved doing the 'run in' malarcy and driving like an OAP I doubt the SMIC would of caused any issues as it would of dealt with the heat being produced by the little boost I was using.

I've thought about the recon issue aswell, but then thought all the turbos will go through the same checks and what not and most of the guts are replaced anyway, leaving only the casings being reused?

I now have the hybrid back on warranty replacement but it did turn up late as well, was promised it to be built and sent on Friday to receive Monday, it was built and sent on Tuesday and received it Wednesday. Poor show, not even a call to let me know when to expect it!

I'm currently running a standard 130 turbo until i get my oil results back. Once my old oil is confirmed clear I'll be on TD's back for a refund on the last rebuild and then think about putting the hybrid on.
