Bit of an update guys, got some new tyres on order. Cupra rear wishbone bushes are being fitted along with some polyflex front wishbone bushes on Friday.

New tyres are being fitted on Monday - some people are gonna say I'm stupid with what tyres I've chosen but I want to try something different to the T1R's - even though they have lasted me 20,000+ miles!

My 312mm brake caliper carriers are being shot blasted and power coated, I'll pick them up Friday. :)

You need proper tools to do it or you can fook up the wishbones apparently. I'm replaced mine cos I've got a knocking noise again and think it's either them, anti roll bar bushes or droplinks....

I've gone for Yokohama Parada Spec 2's. Yes I've heard they're crap in the wet, but I dont really drive hard in the wet anyway......

But i have heard they're incredible in the dry - and hopefully that'll mean I can get that bit more power down in the dry! :D

And calipers and carriers are gonna be a very similar colour to what they are now. Bright blue. :)

Make sure it's not your ARB that's knocking against your subframe (drivers side.) Check the ARB bush retainers to see if they have perished. I believe your car with have the plastic retainers which crack n fall off like mine did. You might want to get that replaced at the same time as the wishbone bushes to save having to get your wheel alignment done twice.

I do have a clonking/snapping/cracking noise from the drivers side when I turn the wheel in lock. I wonder if that's to do with the arb?

Is it easy enough to find the ARB retainers and stuff? What did you replace yours with?

Interesting choice of tyre and I also have heard they are shocking in the wet. Problem I think you will have is when overtaking in the wet especially if there is a lot of surfacing water....our torque comes in strong so may prove a problem.

I am changing to t1r's in a month or so. Should be good I hope :)

I had a clonking noise whenever I drove over a bump, which turned out to be the ARB hitting the subframe. The bush retainers had fallen off and that gave the ARB too much free movement. As your car is a similar age to mine I reckon yours will have the same old style ARB. Have a look through my posts in this thread about the bush retainers,

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72747&page=9

I replaced my ARB with a revised Fabia vRS one with metal bush retainers which are welded to the bar. It's also thicker...iirc 21mm vs the old one which was 18mm.

The subframe has to be dropped in order to replace it, so your best off doing it at the same time as the wishbone bushes.

T1R's are what I have now. They are quite good to be honest, but I just want to try something different. Like I say, I booted mine in the wet the other day and it span up at 60mph - that was with T1R's so goes to prove most tyres are useless in the wet!

We'll just have to see how they go, just thought I'd try something different. :)

I dunno if I can get those bushes in time for doing it the same time! :( I will have a look at this when I get round to it this week though. Thanks for your help Altech! To be honest, as long as I know it's not anything that serious Im not too fussed. The handling hasnt been affected but I'm noticing an edge wearing on the front tyres quickly, which im hoping will be the wishbone bushes....

if you order the VRS anti roll bar from a Skoda Dealer, usually on 24 hour stock to dealer
IIRC its only £60 for the ARB complete with bushes;)

definately worth doing IMO, especially, as Altech said, the bushes are being done.
only need to get the laser alignment done once! ;)

So if I order a Fabia VRS anti roll bar, it will come with the bushes already on and it's just a case of swapping it all over then? Might have to order one tomorrow then!

Prefacelift and facelift bumper fogs are different im afraid. :(

I think the prefacelift and Cupra bumper foglights are the same though but dont quote me on that. :)

The bushes are separate and will need sliding onto the bar. You may have to get new bush clamps aswell as the vRS bar is thicker than the standard one. It's quite a big job to do as the subframe needs dropping about 6" in order to get the old bar out.

I couldnt get a VRS anti roll bar in time. :( I'm now carless - the beast is gone for her wishbone bushes to be done. Hopefully this'll sort the knocking. If not then I think I'll cry.

But then even if it isnt that that's making the knocking - the Cupra/Polyflex bushes will be a good upgrade all the same. :)

Well I've had the bushes done - and I really dont like it. I cant take the car under 1500 revs cos the vibrations shake the whole car really badly! So now the rev range is between 1500 and 4500. Even when cruising you cant use the low down revs, it just shakes the whole car with a really deep bassy rumble. The steering wheel is slightly out now too. So gonna get the tracking done when I get the new tyres fitted tomorrow hopefully. Hopefully getting the tracking sorted might make a difference. If not, then I guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it. :(

doesnt sound right, ive never had anything like that with myn

It must've been the tracking! :-o

Had the new tyres fitted today, and 4 wheel tracking done. They said the tracking was a mile out, which i knew it was hence why I got it done!

To have it vibrate the whole car like that was unreal. The steering was alot heavier and everything. It's fine now! Got back in the car and the steering is light again and no more vibrations! :D
