Well done Grot, looks like a new car now. I know it's only a runabout it always feels good to drive around when you built it yourself, I know the feeling.

cheers Bernie, certainly felt good to give it a blast down the A2 after all this time. Like I said though its not the best paint job but it was a first go a spraying. Here's the difference between what comes out of a cheapo spray gun:

and something that costs a bit more:

Sadly I laid down the colour coat with the cheapo and in the sun it looks like a tiger lol. However overall I'm well pleased, I've discovered 2K clearcoat, fantastic stuff, deadly poisonous but the possibilities for furniture restoration etc are endless lol. I'll valet the interior tomorrow and post some more pics

Where did you get 2 pack clearcote from honey ? I have been asking around and it seems that people are quite aprehensive about selling it due to disposal regulations ?

You can buy it from a auto paint factor but to be realistic you are not allowed to spray it without the protective clothing and breathing apparatus and in an enclosed workshop,
health & safety you know. Grot had to set up an enclosed spray booth in his garage to accomplish this so not in the realms of a DIY'er on your driveway.

Although I can easily rebiuld the mechanical parts of a car, I'm useless at painting them. I did try years ago with a cheap spraygun and as you say the results are not that good. Just got no patience for endless sanding rubbing down etc. Rather pay some else to do it.

Im pretty clued up on all the details, I used to airbrush BMX bikes and skateboards for friends so was asking as over the years I have found it hard to get hold of 2PK paint.

Boo you can get 2k clearcoat at any auto refinishers, but as s10 said you need to observe proper H&S precautions, it contains isocianates. You need a proper gas mask and full body protective gear as this stuff can get into your body via ears eyes and skin. I installed ventilation in the spray booth as well, it was an industrial explosion proof fan that I salvaged from a fuel store. I would'nt consider using this stuff without taking the proper precautions. here's a pic of the ventialtion btw, ductwork is made from hardboard & mdf lol

had to make up speaker grilles as the fusion ones didn't fit. I found some garden mesh in my daughters garden lol is perfect for the job. I am in the process of making up a rear shelf for 6x9 speakers, will post some more pics as & when. Just really happy to have the thing on the road

Ok; the very last job: made a new rear shelf to take some 6x9 speakers. I'd already put the wiring in for them before the interior went in:

well, that really concludes this thread, nothing more to do now. Its on the road and I've used it over the weekend and I love it! Could do with stiffening the suspension a bit though but as I live in speed bump city at the moment, I'll just leave it. The mrs went over a speed bump too fast in her mr2 a few weeks ago and the toyota dealership have quoted over 2 grand just to replace a steering arm ffs. Looks like another job for me hehe. anyway, having not done any spannering around for years, I have to say I'm totally impressed with the engineering in these little seats and I now know it was worth doing up, I had my doubts at first. thanks for all your comments, they really helped spur me on with the project!
