Fitting Suspension (not coilovers) THAT easy? Or worth £100?

If £100 includes alignment (inc camber) it's a deal

If it doesn't, then it's as good as worthless

BHP Addicts description isn't accurate - it's easier.

I reckon that I could do it on my driveway in under 2 hours including a cup of tea & some swearing.

It'd be less with air tools.

Alignment is key though.

Was just about to say if it includes a full allignment after then its worth the £100. Otherwise do it yourself its easy. Even someone whos not done it before shouldnt take more than 30mins easy shock, i can do them in 15mins each including swaping springs ect..

it's easy in theory but i found the hardest bit was getting the strut out of the hub. even when you separate it slightly it'll still be tight. for £100 i wouldn't bother doing it myself. it's not a hard job, just time consuming.
The drivers side you'll have to compress the strut to get it out of the arch due to the long driveshaft - it'll touch the subframe and the hub won't drop far enough.
The new ones go in easy though and the back ones take about 20 mins to swap over.

remember, this is only for the leon. The ibiza is bolted on and not compressed like the leon.

I say give it a crack, as letting someone else do everything and you'll never learn. If you lived in Netherlands I'd say bring it down and we'll sort something

Hey folks! I ordered a SEAT Sport suspension kit (Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs), got it very very cheap new,

So the Ibiza doesn't need spring compressing then? On removing and even fitting new?

Is it literally a case of jack the car up, take wheel off, unbolting each shock, spring and replacing it with the new one???

I think I have a box of new top strut mounts (they look like black rubber burgers!) as I was going to replace them when I changed my suspension.

I'd imagine the rears to be easy, I did my Fiat Punto GT rear shocks years ago, but that was like for like swap.

If i fit them myself I could go down the local garage to get the tracking/alignment done after. The £100 did not include any alignment.

you will need spring clamps if you are taking apart the old shock assembely as the spings will be compressed...

I got this done today, a friend of mine fitted them for £50 all in, which is good, although the alignment is way out lol!!!

It's a struggle now, as I can't find anyone who'll do it on a Sunday!

I've always been advised to drive for approx 500miles before getting the alignment done so that the suspension settles and beds in place... I wouldn't worry about not getting it done today...

Ideally it needs doing straight away, then checked...

bad alignment will have awful handling & can be dangerous.

just read thru this forum and now im considering doing this myself also,

i have a set of cupra shocks and lowered springs from my friends cupra,

only thing i can see being a problem is the spring compressor/clamps (wotever it is) as i dont have any

do i need them to take of my old suspension or fit the new ones??????

can anyone tell me wot other tools i would need and would i be able to use the jack in the boot of my car as its the only one i have (the one that came with the car for changing the spare wheel)

My friend who fitted it, had his mate also doing the other side at the same time, so it took them about an hour to do the whole lot, it looked remotely easy, they had air tools and for £50 I wasn't bothered about not doing it myself - the rears were almost ridiculously quick to do!

The tyres look very flat now! I checked the psi and they are fine, so the camber must be completely out, driving it wasn't too pleasant last night! Steering wheel turned to keep it straight!

Im getting my brother to take it to a Hunter 4 wheel alignment place tommorow, so hopefully they can sort it out there and then, they mentioned they will give printouts etc for every wheel angles before and after... Seems a bit over the top but it needs doing properly I guess!

It's tempting me to get a front strut brace now...
