Running rough and hesitating - struggles to start

Picked the Arosa up this morning after having all three injectors replaced, hope you guys have got your problems sorted.

When the garage towed mine away (three weeks ago) all three injectors were generating an error code. :(

And feck me, £250 each? For a cheap runabout this little $h:tbox is turning out to be an expensive pain in the ass. The sooner I can shift it on and get back to Japanese cars the happier I'll be. Do these cars use the same injectors as the other VW TDi engines (1.9 & 2.0)?

Not had time to post since picking the car up. It lasted approx 10 miles & broke down the same day (3rd April). Received a phone call from the Dealers three days later informing me that it now needed a new ECU at a cost of £900, but not to worry as we (the Dealers) had mis-diagnosed in the first place & will pay for it, it was'nt the injectors after all. Oh dear, this is going to turn out to be a nightmare. Keeping my patience at the moment,but not happy.:cry:

Yes tried it, only problem is the questions being asked from the online mechanics is, I don't know the answer, as the car is being diagnosed/worked on/fault codes etc at a garage 10 miles from me. It's cost $30 to subscribe to & I'm not getting all the info back from the garage to pass on to the mech's in the link.

I am still awaiting my results from ECU doctor. I really do think we should be maybe thinking of getting a letter together to Seat, it seems we are experiencing similar problems at vast expense and getting nowhere from their dealers. Mine has been to two different main dealers neither of which have sorted out my problem. My car has only done 48000 miles, hardly an old banger, surely a modern tdi should be more robust than this. It seems dealers are purely fixing these things by trial and error.

Seems now my ECU was sent away for testing, it's come back with no faults, no new ECU then at £900. Garage now telling me it's an 'earth' problem between the ECU & the injectors, that was last Friday. Phoned again yesterday to be told they still have not found an 'earth' but are going to change the crank sensor as it may be giving a spurious signal. Think it's been off the road now for 6 weeks. God help us all if the Motor Manufacturing proposal to Government's goes ahead in 2010 where all servicing, repairs,modifications etc will have to be carried out by Main Dealers only (www.r2rc.co.uk).

Turns out it was the crank sensor, picked it up last Friday & it's been fine since. Now the garage are saying it came in with two faults, the injectors & crank sensor. Not happy with the Dealership, been waiting for another phone call from them for a week now!

I have had a problem with my TDI arosa now for nearly 2 months. When driving along at a steady speed it will hesitat very badly then carry on, it does it when hot or cold but first started when low on diesel. I have changed the fuel filter and air filter. Over Christmas it refused to start so i changed the coolant temp sensor but still no joy. Green Flag got it started by spraying alot of Easystart down the air filter tubing after the MAF. Main Seat garage then diagnosed a dirty EGR which they cleaned up (albeit only charging for 20 minutes labour, thought it would take longer to clean) Since then it is still running rough and hesitating so i have cleaned the MAF sensor and reset ECU after reading various posts. Also it has had a load of Forte diesel treatment.

The car this morning struggled to start AND still runs rough. Any ideas ?

Oh and the weird bit from the is when i turned my radio on after ECU reset it asked for a code which i don't have (SAFE on display), left it off for 2 days and turned it on yesterday and the thing works ! and has remembered all the preset radio stations, HOW ???

The ECU remembers which radio was being used in your car, after a few starts it sees the radio code matches the code stored in the ECU and re -initialises.
The hesitation could be loose or holed intercooler hoses, so many things to case hesitation on TDI's, it will be hard to resolve.

Just got mine back from the garage yesterday ~ I think that was about 11 or 12 weeks it was away this time. The mechanic was punching the air in relief with both hands as I drove it away; he was getting sick of the sight of the damn thing in his yard every morning.

Replaced the crank and cam sensors, and the in-tank fuel pump, but so far I would still say it doesn't quite feel 100%. I just want to get rid it now, and get back into something Japanese that I can actually trust.

Update: back on the road again, and the mechanic is "confident" I won't be back, something he hasn't said previously. It's definitely driving better than before; no more occasional hesitations. Gave it a nice long run yesterday to test it... all the way to a Mazda dealership in Falkirk. They have a nice blue Mazda 2 diesel on an 08 plate which I'm thinking of trading the Arosa for ~ I'll just have to see what the outstanding finance is and how much it'd cost me.

At least my mechanics didn't gouge me; after all the work they've done, they didn't even give me a bill. Four tows, a fuel pump and two sensors replaced, reprogrammed electronics and god knows how much time, and they even bought a Seat diagnostic computer specially for the job. And all they charged me for was the initial tow and the cost of parts, which I paid last time I picked the car up. This time they just waved me away. I'll be buying them a crate of beers for their troubles in the next couple of weeks (as long as the car keeps going). If any folks are in the Renfrewshire area, I can hereby recommend C&D Grant, Motor Engineers.

mine is still on my drive feeling sorry for itself, after paying £2500 to buy it and around another £1000 on mechanics i am determined to get it going rather than writing it off as i am sure nothing is unfixable, havnt tried the crank sensor, maybe do that next

I don't know exactly what happened with mine, but I believe it was a combination of cumulative faults, and the crank sensor was one of them. It shouldn't be much money to replace and isn't a difficult job, so I'll cross my fingers.

The car has been sitting on my drive now for too long and i've lost interest in her so it is going on Ebay tonight for a mear £1000, reckon it will be a bragain for someone who has the time/space to fix it

It's a shame you have lost interest in your Arosa, seen it on Ebay and was tempted, but too many other things to do with me cash.
Just had a thouhgt tho, if the cam belt was changed and you've had the problem since, it could be the belt is 1 or 2 teeth out of synch. I've come across this problem before where all else tests ok and the cambelt was not fitted correctly. A SEAT dealer should should have checked this before they start changing this that and the other.
Strange they have not found out the problem after all this time, after all they say take it to a main dealer because of their multi million pound investment in diagnostic tools and trained technicians blah, blah, blah, and yet they can't fix yours.
