Well I dunno if all mk2's are like this but my fuel light comes on when I have quarter of tank left. Does this mean I can drive it till that quarter of a tank is gone or do I follow the lights advice and fuel up?

Mine gets appx 30-40 between the light going on and the gauge touching the bottom mark. Conversely the top 1/4 of the tank seems to last a lot longer.

In the alps I started a drive at the top of a valley with the needle almost touching the bottom mark. Used the throttle as little as I could, and 50 minutes / 25 miles later rolled into town with the engine still running. Managed 61.5 mpg [B)]

Ah thats ok, just a little low on cash till the end of the week so I thought I would ask.

Just wondered why the fuel light comes on so early. seems a bit wierd.

Wouldn't run it down too low, you'll be sucking up all the crap out the bottom of the tank

I remember going back to Reading from London when the fuel light came on. Made it back but the next day literally 100meters from the petrol station it ran out lol. Couldn't push it as i was at the bottom of a hill. Ended up having to buy a bloody petrol can as the petrol staion refused to let me fill up a plastic bottle

My light comes on just as i go below 1/4 but soon as that light comes on bang the needle hits the bottom. My light come on in birmingham city centre by the time ui got home (7 miles) the needle was resting on the bottom. Sayin that tho i ave drove round for 3days when the needle as been sat on the bottom. That was after watching the top gear episode when they drive from somewhere like germany to blackpool on a tank of fuel lol

mine seems to have roughly 4/5L left when light appears - if i fill it as soon as it does on a steady flat surface i can just squeeze 41L in to whats a 45L tank

my light comes on pretty early too, just above 1/8th of a tank though. But yeah mate - you can drive it until the finger doesnt even come up when you start it - just gotta have a little faith haha. Naah - I've done it, wouldnt recommend it though, this was when I forgot my wallet at home one time. It'll go for 40-50miles on 1/4 of a tank you know... more, but they vary - and the way you drive obvs. :)

Done 80 miles on the light on the way home from northampton in my old 1.4 55mph all the way up the motorway, not fun at all.

50 is the most i've done on the light in the GTi before filling up, i always think with it being german its probably a bit over cautious and pessimistic anyway.

Mine used to come on at just under a quarter of a tank, but as sson as the light came on the needle hit the bottom of the fuel gauge

Although now the petrol light seems to have broke, but hey ho, it'll be reyt

520 miles to a full tank!?

I struggle to reach 250m!

Is it just me or does it seem that as soon as the light comes on the needle seems to go down quicker?
