just fitted new shocks, hellish squeeking noise.

hi guys any ideas, brand new shocks on today, now a bad squeeking from drivers side front....

help appreciated


also it sits rather higher now than it did?

fitted shocks before, never had this...

Springs not back in their seats properly?

the springs were located back to the spring seat at the base of the strut and seated fully into the top mount...

anything else....

Does it do it stationary moving the wheel left/right or just over bumps?

if i push the body it squeeks mate, like a high pitched squeek...

also do new shocks take time to settle in, car is noticeably higher than before

Nah the springs take time.

Sounds like a dry rubber to me

so if i grease the shock, or wd40 it, mite clear it up.

did white grease the top mounts and bearings.

why is the car sitting higher now then?

Yeah don't go mad to have brakes under where it might drip

Car sits high as it's all been apart, it shouldn't do really, will settle quick though.

do yu think its because the struts arent in the housing fully, was a tight git to get in, will these settle in fully themselves with the weigh on?

will try lubing it up a little.

Err yeah they need to be seated properly.

might have to whip it off again, any tips to get them in the housing easier.....

did the shocks on mine and was easy, this is on the mother in laws mk4 golf.

suppose this is why its sitting higher due to the struts not being in fully....


not sure if this is the case but ill have to look.

But yes, if they are not sitting right, they will sit higher.

Are they one piece or did you replace the absorber into the strut?

Was it standard absorbers, because aftermarket one come with new threaded nuts that the absorber passes through, and are generally bigger in diameter.

all one piece mate. full front setup changed

standard absorbers, oem spec matey

should have been strait swap tbh

i think there not seated in the housing fully, hence the highness

the squeak has now gone by the way.

i have to do the rears this week so ill have another look at this then

After fitting new shocks it takes a few miles for them to settle in ... and they will drop a bit. As long as the springs are seated properly on the shock it shouldnt be a problem.
