Weight has loads to do with it mate. And in the case of the Edition 30, DSG has loads to do with it too.
With regard to
Ibiza's, CupraBaz's
Ibiza with its K03s turbo turns out the same power as your car albeit with a bit less torque. He consistently managed around his record of 13.7 @ approx 107mph at Crail. I am a little surprised knowing his car, knowing how well stripped it is, and knowing how well he can drive it, that you have managed to shave 0.5 seconds from that time
.
Back to our lardy Leons/Golfs/S3's, it is just not physically possible to change gears as quick as DSG does, and given that you need 3 changes on the 1/4 mile, DSG cars will always have quicker times as less time is lost to gear changing. Your
Ibiza will probably only need 2 changes and that is a pretty decent advantage
I guess the proof of how weight retards the progress of a car can be seen when you compare that your car with only 250bhp is only 0.2 secs slower over the 1/4 mile than a Golf with over 100bhp more although the extra power can be seen on the terminal speed where Jonnys car is a good 8mph ahead of yours despite the extra weight
Comparing it again to something even lighter, my R1 managed the 1/4 mile in approx 10.6 seconds @ 135mph (as memory serves) despite me being a long and heavy lad. The R1 with the mods I have only has around 180-190bhp and the torque figure is low.
It will be interesting to see the 1/4 mile times pop up this year now that more Leons/Golfs/S3's are getting to the stage 2 / stage 2+ regions, but I still think that a time of 13.5 seconds will be about right unless the car is stripped down.
