blade, a lot of folk on AudiSport.net are having big issues with dual mass flywheels and clutches giving up pretty early on when running 350+bhp.

Have you seen any indication of rev rise without power increase (like a lag until clutch grips)? We are all wondering if it is down the the Haldex system as there seem to be no signs of clutch issues / DMF issues on SCN with the Leons.

None of the high bhp Leons I know of have had any clutch issues yet mate. The clutch is going to get more abuse on an S3 especially on 1/4 days as the clutch will have to work hard to ensure tyres lose traction before it starts to slip. On the otherhand wheelspin city is the problem in the Leon.

I am sure a couple of Golf Ed30's have had problems with the clutch with high bhp though.

lot of people having to switch to Sachs performance clutches and single mass flywheels (esp. the one with 426bhp BT conversion). A bit of a step backwards, but supposedly the early cars ran LUK clutch kits which weren't up to much (like mine). Audi have changed supplier, but have yet to find out who to. GLad to hear you guys are trouble free.

Weight has loads to do with it mate. And in the case of the Edition 30, DSG has loads to do with it too.

With regard to Ibiza's, CupraBaz's Ibiza with its K03s turbo turns out the same power as your car albeit with a bit less torque. He consistently managed around his record of 13.7 @ approx 107mph at Crail. I am a little surprised knowing his car, knowing how well stripped it is, and knowing how well he can drive it, that you have managed to shave 0.5 seconds from that time .

Back to our lardy Leons/Golfs/S3's, it is just not physically possible to change gears as quick as DSG does, and given that you need 3 changes on the 1/4 mile, DSG cars will always have quicker times as less time is lost to gear changing. Your Ibiza will probably only need 2 changes and that is a pretty decent advantage ;)

I guess the proof of how weight retards the progress of a car can be seen when you compare that your car with only 250bhp is only 0.2 secs slower over the 1/4 mile than a Golf with over 100bhp more although the extra power can be seen on the terminal speed where Jonnys car is a good 8mph ahead of yours despite the extra weight ;)

Comparing it again to something even lighter, my R1 managed the 1/4 mile in approx 10.6 seconds @ 135mph (as memory serves) despite me being a long and heavy lad. The R1 with the mods I have only has around 180-190bhp and the torque figure is low.

It will be interesting to see the 1/4 mile times pop up this year now that more Leons/Golfs/S3's are getting to the stage 2 / stage 2+ regions, but I still think that a time of 13.5 seconds will be about right unless the car is stripped down.

dont forget the launch control would be like half a sec all day long compared to a manual box.

The launch control is not going to be better at starts than a manual. All it does is ensure you dont/cant fluff it. Someone with good control of the car will launch a manual car as quick as a dsg car. DSG just gets it right most times although I am sure the fastest times on some DSG cars were achieved with no launch control.

To get the power to accelerate quicker, surely the car would not accelerate as well from a standstill from idle revs as it would if you did a "manual" kind of start where you increase the revs to say 3.5k and drop the clutch to launch.

There is a feature on DSG cars known as launch control that does that for you. Look for DSG on Youtube and you will see how it works and a comparison of a DSG Golf GTi vs a manual Golf GTi, and the manual is driven by some kind of racing driver.

Yeah, thats why I was asking as you said above that some of the fastest time with dsg were acheived without launch control.

My clutch seems ok at the moment, but i must admit the thought that it will go sometime soon is never far away.

Don't you guys have problems getting the power down in the wet? Does a standard Cupra have this problem at all?

Yeah it does but when i went to get my Revo done they had developed an linear throttle response which helps ease power in when cornering etc.

But it is hard at times getting the power down but all good fun :D

Lol thats rubbish mate.. All the 'launch control' allows you to do is launch the car from more revs than a stand still.. Im pretty sure you can do that in a manual too :p;)
