I had a quick look at Esocrt Cosworths on Autotrader the other day and IMO they aren't worth the money.

I'm personnaly a big Ford fan growing up with fast fords on the drive.

Nothing gives me more of a buzz than seeing genuine original classic Ford, even a basic Capri say.

The cosworths though, although ace cars have suffered from the chav image, bar the original Sierra or th RS500.

Too many lookalikes around, Escort Cosworth in particular unfortunately. If I see a genuine RS Turbo for example I go wow. If I see a Cosworth its a "is it genuine or not?"

That's just my 2p worth anyway.

If you have some financial gain to make then do it. Choice of car is your own choice and I wish you all the hapiness for it. I reckon you would be better off doing the frugal bit for as long as possible and get something really swift when you have a sufficient pot to run it. If I were in your position however, I would plump for something in the Audi RS range, I perceive them to be a lot more practical, safer and reliable than the equivalent high powered fords.
But they won't hold their prices like the Cossie will

Go for it, got to love the cossie, it's a classic and is getting better. Less and less on the roads (round here at least). wanted one years back but insurance laughed at me. But if I was in the market now for a 90's classic I personally would go for the 5 pot Quattro SWB... What a car mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Yes a well sorted new performance car would show it a clean pair of heals, but what about driver enjoyment, the lack of a million and one driver aids... Feeling the car squirm around., the camber changes, learning to brake late without locking up a wheel, getting good clean acceleration without spinning all the power away or TCS interrupting and spoiling the fun. There is only so fast you can go on the road, so you might as well enjoy getting there that little bit more....

Well I spoke to HR and its in their hands now. I put my case forward for a company car, so will see what happens. Company policy is to push the allowance over the car as the car is more expensive for them to provide, but we will see.

I have to say that the comment above about the Cossies not being worth the money - i would tend to agree especially when you see FQ340 Evo 8's and 9's for the same money. I guess the difference is that in a year or 2, the Cossie will still be worth that amount where the Evo wont be.

True, however who buys a fun car that they love and the rationale is if the car will hold it's value? The cars which provide their owners with the most enjoyment WILL be bought regardless of the financial implications. Anyone who does not do so in the above fashion, is making a compromise, within reason

Based on some limited research a decent Escort Cossie will set you back around £15K going by those on sale today, were £21Kish new, but are realistically probably only worth about £8K.

Just found an article which I can't put a date on unfortunately but reckons pay about £7K for an early small turbo version.

They seem in demand now, but could easily be worth a lot less than the asking price. Many people would love one, but who will pay that sort of cash when you can buy a year old Cupra for example for less...

Thanks for all the input on this lads. I have a couple of things to do to the car like get the jacking point cover replaced on the drivers side etc, but the car will be going up for sale soon. If it sells it sells, if it doesnt, then I guess I will keep it for another year :)

I am not going to take a savage kick in the balls over my chosen price, but I had thought about undercutting most of the other Cupras available price wise. I may well regret doing this, but hey, I could always get another.

Diesel repmobile, here I come :)

It's a real shame that you've lost your drivers side jacking point cover as I also lost the same one. I have the other three sitting in the garage just in case with a tin of Emocian Red paint. You could have had one of mine, although as it's the same one I lost:cry: I cannot assist.

Will you be selling your car as it is or returning it back to standard?

Good Luck with the sale anyway. If you price it lower than the other advertised, I'm sure you will find a buyer pretty soon.

Cheers mate. I am in talks with a leasing company at the moment who will give me the market value for the car so I will know the worst case scenario value wise. Any price over that would be a bonus in a private sale.

If I cant sell it privately, with or without the mods, the car will be be traded in as standard to the leasing company and the mods will be sold on privately.

When I am in a position to advertise the car, someone is gonna get the chance to own a beast for a really decent price :)

Defected!
There's an Escort Cosworth near me and he likes to go screaming past my house with his super duper noisy woisy dump valve scaring old people and frightening off the birds. However, every time I get behind him he has to pull over to answer his phone/change his 'cassette'.

Well I have had a couple of shocks this morning. Without any stress or hassles, I have been offered £12k for the car as a buy it off me deal. Was also told that the Glasses guide value it closer to £13k.

I guess it will be getting stripped and going to a garage :)

Glasses guide was way off when I part ex'd my Cupra :-(

£12K isn't bad, mine was July 2007 with just under 14K on the clock in black and I got £13550 for it in October based on a deal done in August. Could have had £14350 for it in August against a 1st September car.

£12k is a good price going on what's about on the market a the moment. You'll also get well over £1k for all of your goodies you currently have on it.
