ok, so i've read all this and completely confused myself!
In my case my key works fine for starting car and locking / unlocking, but despite new batteries it won't work as a remote ( to unlock/lock). At first this happened periodically, but now it just won't work. So i know the key comes in two pieces front bit with blade and rear bit that holds circuit board, battery etc. Do i need to replace the whole thing or just one part? Some one did ask me if the little bulb thing inside was black or brown, which it is if that helps!
Thanks guys.

Sorry for being a noob...

But i'm assuming that the 'open boot' button on the 3 buttom flip key will not operate the boot?

If so can i just buy a 2 button key?

Thanks in advance

Sorry if this has been answered already. I've read through this thread a few times and i'm still a bit confused.

I have remote start on my LCR and the immobiliser chip has been stuck to the ignition barrel to work,
I didn't realise it but the chip has fallen off and I've lost it so the remote start no longer works.
The chip was cut off out of my second key and I don't fancy destroying my flip key.

All I need is a new immobiliser chip. Is that also called a Transponder? (Sorry if that's a stupid question).
If it is, can I just order a new one off http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?manu=40 and then put it back in my second key, take it to the Seat garage and get them to configure it?

Good lord - sounds like a bit af a mess.

Yeah transponder is the tiny little glass cylynder. This can only be programmed once, doesn't have to be a SEAT Dealer (esp - if you want to save some cash) A auto electrician should be able to do it as well

Remove the lower panel, and it will probably be hidden in the sound proof/wadding on the back of the lower panel.

Just to hijack the thread here, my sister has just bought a replacement remote part for her key off of ebay and we are trying to code it to the car, as her existing one has not been able to remotely lock/unlock the car since she bought it last year (she has used the key in the door instead).

Now we are following the procedure for coding the key as described in the car manual but don't seem to be getting anywhere - this is it:

1. Put the remoteless key in the ignition and turn it to on (so the dash lights are on but not the engine)
2. Close the drivers door and put the key to be programmed (with remote) in the lock, and lock the car
3. Unlock and lock the car by turning the key to be programmed in the lock, pressing the unlock and lock buttons on the key at the same time - the horn should sound and lights flash if this is done correctly (this is not happening)
4. Unlock the car and remove the remoteless key from the ignition

All this to be carried out within 30 secs

Does anyone have a (different) foolproof method of getting it to work? If this doesn't help then could it be a faulty reciever in the convenience module?

You need 2 keys AND the one you want to code

Insert key one into igniton onto reds/ignition only
lock door with key two (leave window open in case)
Press unlock on new remote key, wait 6 seconds, press unlock again
Should be job done

Ah right, we only have 2 keys but I assume if I use the remoteless key in the ignition, and the other key with the old remote plugged into it in the door lock, I can then press the unlock button on the new remote to code it?

I will give this method a try tonight and see how I get on!

Thanks for the help
