Potential mk2 Ibiza owner..

Hello all.

I currently own a Mk2 Punto 1.2, but as its a Fiat it's very expensive to keep it running, and i'm forced to sell it.
One of my friends owns a Mk2 Ibiza 1litre. I'm positive it isn't stock, as it has different skirts and bumpers, along with cupra alloys. It's been lowered and it's also debadged. It also has a large backbox, but i'm not sure about the rest of the exhaust system. I really like the look of it. However, seeing as it's 1997, i have a few questions.

- Are there any major things i need to keep in mind for a Seat Ibiza of this age? Rust/gearbox/clutch etc?
- I can't find any information on the 1litre atall. Approximately what is the power of the engine, and what insurance group is it?
- How many MPG can i expect from the 1litre engine that is this old?
- I had a little drive of it. The steering seemed very nice, but the pedals seemed stiff and unresponsive. There was also a rattle coming from the underside of the car when it was turned on. It passed it's MOT last week with flying colours, so is this common in Ibiza's or is it because of the cars age? Should I be worried about the rattling? It's done 91k.

Thank you for any help that you can give me.
Best regards, Joseph.

engine power i beleive from a 1 leter was 50hp,
from a 1l i would say around 40/50 mpg? could be wrong

the only thing u should look out for is rust on archs, clutch pedalto be stiff (if so then pedal box has caved in although they are quite heavy anyway but u can tell if its gone)
insurance group is around 2/3 i think could be 4....
engine is a very il-powered engine thats why its not very responsive i recon, get a 1.4 mate will be alot better power wise, with its 60hp lol

good luck buying one!

hi mate theres two different 1.0 apperently

1.0 MPi E 3d 18.8 s 90 mph 50 bhp
1.05 CL 3d 21.6 s 86 mph 45 bhp

insurance group 2 and 47mpg.

have you thought about looking for a 1.4? still cheap insurance and good on fuel but they actually move when you use the throttle lol.

or if you can afford the insurance look at getting a 8v gti, cheap as chips to pick up and pritty nippy. not bad on fuel either i can get 40mpg from mine.

rust is quite common around the arches and sills

do you have a budget in mind?

Thanks for the responses.

Didn't read that thread, sorry!
Well I've just checked the insurance and im shocked at how cheap it is. I'm only 18 and its £500 per year!
Will the 1.4 add much to that? And what MPG can i expect from a 1.4?

Thanks for that mate. I'm not sure which one it is, but i think its the CL, so the 45bhp one (haha).
My budget is around £1200, because thats all i can get for my Punto really.

im 20 and have a gti and insurance is 1k with a claim, with a 1.4 cant see you spending more than £750 and there will probally be nearly as good as 1.0 on fuel. around 40-45mpg i would guess.
