Alright. After doing a bit of research, i think the 1litre engine is the same one found in the Polo's? Am i correct? Now, when i looked under the hood of the beeza, i noticed one thing. On the engine near the front, was what looked like part of the intake. But it was just a gaping hole. Like half of the pipe, with nothing on the end. The bloke said that the previous owner had taken whatever was on there off because it made it sound more "beefy". Is this bad news? Could the engine be damaged?

I've managed to find a picture that looks similar, outlined is the pipe..

Now it looks like it has some form of breather pipe attached to it. So i'm thinking the bloke has just removed this thinking it didn't do anything except mute the engine like a pillock, am i right?

no.. the pipe picks up hot air from the "Gaping Hole" near the mainfold and directs it to the throttle body so it does not freeze in cold weather

Alright, that's good news. It looked strange and out of place, so i described it as a gaping hole lol:)
So would taking that piping off actually make it sound beefier or is he mad?

Hes mad.. its just a hole in a heat sheild :S if were a hole in airbox/manifold itself then it would sound beefier

Righto. Thanks for that mate, it's real good news. Would you recommend i find a replacement part to fit back on there? Or isn't it worth it?

Now I know i've asked this, and it's a really stupid idea, but i've been thinking a lot about this. Say i bought a K&N induction kit for the 1l polo engine(which i'm assuming will fit the 1l beeza?), fitted a complete exhaust system and had it completely serviced and remapped.. what kind of bhp/torque am i looking at there? Anywhere near the 60bhp mark? If i can get anything near that then i'd be happy.

The reason I ask, i'd have some spare money left to spend on the car to get it nice, just wondering what i can do with it.

Really, you're best off with a full service and some decent tyres. Honestly, don't waste your money. Decent tyres is the best thing you can do - it's never going to be fast in a straight line, but you can make it more fun in the corners relatively cheaply.

(GTi 8v's are quite cheap these days too, I'd save for one of those)

Aye, I really wish I could, but the whole point i'm getting rid of the punto is so i can get a cheaper to run car. Im only 18 and going to uni next year, so i need something with high economy and cheap insurance. The lil 1l beeza is the best of both worlds there. One day, ill get a GTi. For now, I need something cheap n cheerful.

And corners would be fun, seeing as the punto wanted to barrel roll through every roundabout!:p

Drove the 1litre today, absolutely awful. Looks like i'm stuck with my Punto till I can afford insurance on a 1.4!
