It certainly pays to shop around.

I was quoted "about £210" for the 1st service on my Leon FR170 from a reputable SEAT dealer in Huddersfield (incidently, where i got the car from). Thinking it a bit steep, I phoned Ted Johnson's in Barnsley and boy am i glad i did!! Just paid £101 and a few pence for the same service, had the car washed and vacuumed and 2 cups of coffee thrown in as well!!

In my opinion, the garages which charge way over the odds are only shooting themselves in the foot - when it comes to to buying a new car, guess which dealer will be top of the list? Not the local one, that's for sure.

I know it has just changed hands recently but I would class what was the SEAT dealer in Hudds as reputable.

Damaged my car whilst in their care as put the wrong oil in at the first service, which they tried to overcharge me for. Both problems were rectified after a bit of fighting.

Ted Johnson has a very good reputation.

Always worth ringing round a few dealers.

Sorry to hear they damaged your car Phil, that is not good, but they do seem to have a decent reputation by what others have said on cupranet.

Never-the-less, can't fault Ted Johnson and they'll certainly have my business in the future.

I always phone 3 'local' dealers, and a 10k service varies between £99 and £180. Guess which one I choose.

i know this sounds weird but i am looking forward to my next service (second service) i have a "get out of jail free" card , basicaly a letter from SEAT as a goodwill gesture saying my next service is 100% free.
now what do you think i an get away with on my next service?

i am definatly not telling the dealers before hand cause they will only skimp on stuff :(

Had mine done at Specialist cars Seat in Aberdeen.

1st TDI service is a fixed price £175 inc vat. I also had them do some warranty work on the "wet windows" problem. Got a curteosy car for free (Freetrack 4x4) only had to pay insurance at £11.50/day but i ended up getting that for free as they forgot to charge it and decided they coulndt be bothed doing another transaction.

Car had a soapy jet wash and rinse (no brush thankfully!) and the tyres had a good dose (looks like a whole can) of tyrewall black applied. I think they had roughly hovered out the inside too as there were fewer crumbs on the floor.

Car running better now about 500 miles since service, seams to be quieter and less fuel hungry than before.

Im thinking it must be new oil unless they apply ECU upgrades(?) at the time of service.

Almost makes me think that a DIY 6 month oil change would be good for the car.

I've just had a 3rd year service on mine and it had an ECU "fix" applied. Don't know what it was supposed to fix but can't say it has had any noticable effect.

Emmer Green SEAT in Reading and Wiltshire SEAT in Farnham both wanted £250 for the first service on my Leon 170TDI FR. Camberley SEAT Service Centre did it for £204.

I couldn't find any authorised SEAT place cheaper than that without driving significantly further.

To answer any questions - David cook motors have the following service offers in place:

£99 - for a 'red' service (which is an oil change and check over i.e 10k, 30k, 50k etc)

£159 - for an amber service (which includes as above but includes the replacment of the pollen filter and air filter - 20k,60k etc)

£200 - for a green service (which includes as above but has every filter changed, including plugs - if applicable - 40k, 80k etc)

Those are the prices you pay, there are no hidden charges and they all include a wash and vac and offer a courtesy car if requested.

I was just quoted £215 from Huddersfield for a 50k service (same as 10k). Over £200 to change the oil!? I'm sure when I got the first 10k service done there it was something like £150. They just lost my business. I've booked through a website who act of behalf of a local independent. £85 including pickup and drop off! :D
